Unusual but not made up boys names?

I really don't want to use a top 100 name.

I was one of 5 girls with the same name in my primary school class and one of 6 girls with the same name at secondary and it has really put me off.

However...looking at the lists, it is clear a lot of these names are popular for a reason and a lot of the less popular ones are either completely made up nonsense or just odd.

What I think I'm after is maybe a Victorian or earlier name that used to be classic but has fallen out of favour a bit. ie unusual but still recognisable as an actual name and not totally outlandish

Any suggestions gratefully received, thanks!

Josiah - very popular in Victorian times. I wish I was brave enough to use it.

Boaz is another cool one if you like biblical names.

I never contribute to baby name threads (haven't got children, not going to have any) but I just wanted to say I love the name Amos. Just love it!

There is a Josiah in my family every generation going back to the 1600s.

I named DS Raphael believing it to be fairly unusual. Then I taught a parenting class using a 11 day old Raph and three other women liked and used it. Unless we move, there will be 4 in his village primary reception class.

Just wanted to say that it really depends where you live. Unusual names are very popular down where I am, so much so that they sort of stop being so unusual. My son has a top 10 name (which I dislike, ex's choice), butit isn't so popular where we live. When we go to visit family, every other child has the name. I wish he had a more unusual name.

I know the following

Amos
Wilbur
Wilfred
Demian
Conan
Jasper
Zerin
Theo
Barnabus
Barney
Marli
River
Vivienne
Forrest
Magnus (nn Mags)
Austin
Odin
Fergus
August
Gene

I'm in a bohemian area also (I'm a CM) I come into contact with lots of children, some of my favourite wonderful names are;

Kato
Kofi
Spike
Buddy
Horatio
Ptolemy
Sky (also works for girls)
Micah
Carter
Pheonix
Austin

Don't know if these are to taste, but all these boys are lovely and the names do suit them!
