Possible boys names... Opinions please!

Atticus.... We loved 10 years ago but I hear it's getting popular and a fad name?

Caspian... I really love but partner not keen.

Zephyr.. Is it more for a girl?

Leo.... Is it too popular?
Considering August... Gus for a nickname?
I like Heath as a middle name possibly.

OP posts:

I quite like Atticus. What about Cassius as an alternative?

Not keen on Caspian but I do like Caspar.

Really not keen on Zephyr.

I like Leo but it does seem a bit boring/common compared to your other suggestions!

Not keen on August or Gus at all.

TheScience · 26/04/2014 16:20

Leo, definitely.

LadyWithLapdog · 26/04/2014 16:25

August Heat(h), seriously?

Mama1980 · 26/04/2014 16:29

Love caspian and atticus.
Not keen on zephyr and I know a lot of Leo's if that's a factor.
Don't like August at all, makes me think of the character from 'water for elephants.'

13Stitches · 26/04/2014 16:31

I love Atticus, Caspian and Zephyr. (I may steal any of them in the event of a DS2!).

Leo and August pale in comparison.

Zephyr is my favourite!

DoTheStrand · 26/04/2014 16:31

I see Atticus mentioned on here all the time but I have never met one in real life.

Caspian is great. I have a Cassian which so far everyone who has heard it has liked even though none of them had ever heard of it before.

Leo is the most traditional though I don't know any.

I know a baby Heath, I think it's a lovely name.

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 26/04/2014 16:35

August is my favourite and we considered it for DS2, but went for Caspar instead. :)

Pebbles0934 · 26/04/2014 16:36

I love Cassian but my partner has said no. Do you pronounce it cass-ee-an or Cashan?

OP posts:
DoTheStrand · 26/04/2014 16:46

We pronounce it Cass-ee-an. I think in the US it would be pronounced Cashun but only one person has ever asked about pronunciation. I think if a name is unusual the most obvious pronunciation is probably be easiest!

Mind you my other DS is Ashton (which I think is a bit of a marmite name, though I love it) and I am starting to find myself referring to both of them as Cashton Grin

rachel234 · 26/04/2014 17:29

Love Atticus, Caspian and Zephyr! All classic, cool and not overused.

Don't like Leo.

florascotia · 26/04/2014 17:46

Zephyr (aka Zephyrus) = male; was kindly Greek god of the west wind who brought new life and abundance. He had several wives and also fell in love with a Spartan prince, Hyacinth.

Not too keen on Caspian - it's too closely connected with Chronicles of Narnia. Caspian was not used as a boy's name before CS Lewis's books. (If you like them, that would not be a problem, of course!)

Before Narnia, Caspian was the name of an inland sea (now sadly polluted/over-exploited). But if you have happy memories of/connections with that region, then why not?

ThreeBecameFour · 26/04/2014 17:51

I like Leo and Au(gus)t. They were on my list for ds but DH didn't like them so much. Leo is getting popular though. I would go with Gus!!!! Definitely!!! The others I am not too sure about... could be seen as a little pretentious perhaps? Though I like the names very much...

Lesleythegiraffe · 26/04/2014 17:57

It must be great to live in an area where these unusual names are acceptable.

Where I live, sadly, your child would be mocked mercilessly by the army of Kaden, Keigan, Kason, Kaylon and any other made up name beginning with K. Sad

PreciousPeach · 26/04/2014 18:18

Leo would be my fave....how about Cassius?

MrsTamkin · 26/04/2014 18:29

Atticus talked about on here yes, but it's not going to suddenly boom and become the next 'Harry' I don't think.
Atticus is a great name

Alisvolatpropiis · 26/04/2014 20:48

Zephyr is ridiculous.

Atticus is ok.

Caspian is alright but Casper/Caspar is more usable in my opinion.

Leo is very nice.

Alisvolatpropiis · 26/04/2014 20:49

I went to school with a Cassian. He said Cass-ee-an. I like it.

I've never heard the Cash-un pronunciation. That misses the majority of letters out?

Smartiepants79 · 26/04/2014 20:50

Leo.
The others are all pretentious in my opinion.

FatFrumpyFilly · 27/04/2014 00:49

Zephyr is a cool name and I love it.
Caspian is okay, prefer Cassian.
Atticus is also a fantastic name.
Leo is a boring name in comparison.
Don't like the name Heath at all!

Names I also like are Raffety, Inigo, Isaiah & Malachi.

flavourflave · 27/04/2014 07:00

I love diff names but here my faves are Leo and Heath. How about Edison or Brunel or Brent?

winkywinkola · 27/04/2014 08:05

Atticus. My next ds if I have another dc will be Atticus.

Pebbles0934 · 27/04/2014 21:00

Do they go with Tai and Saffron?!!

OP posts:
sonniebonnie · 28/04/2014 15:15

Really like Atticus and Zephyr - they're strong, cool and not too commonly used.

Mrsfullhouse · 29/04/2014 09:56

Caspian is gorgeous, I want (along with many others) but Dh has vetoed.
Also Atticus is lovely, but getting ridiculously over used (bloody Beckham's and their mockingbird friendliness)
I know an Attius as an alternative...
