Karen.

As she was born before Outnumbered started she wasn't named after that character. I'll admit to feeling a bit Hmm about it.

I really like Ray/mond. It's on the shortlist for any future DS's Blush

SummerRain · 21/03/2014 22:35

There's a Brian and a jason at our school too, never struck me as that retro tbh but I think they remained more common over here over the years.

EverythingCounts · 21/03/2014 22:36

I'd never have expected Rita to resurface, but I bet there are some now what with Ms. Ora.

Every time I hear Karen I think that I actually rather like it, though probably not enough to choose it.

TheReluctantCountess · 21/03/2014 22:42

Ds is Dennis. He's seven.

Yika · 21/03/2014 22:44

I don't mind karen. Very much of my generation though - mid-60s. I also like the names Ian and Martin, and love Stephen, Eric and Raymond.

Derek makes me think of an alien, like a Dalek.

scarletforya · 21/03/2014 22:49

Ian and Gary are awful. But I love Earl.

Innogen · 21/03/2014 22:50

I love Karen!

invicta · 21/03/2014 22:55

I know a 13 year a Sarah and 13 year old Howard.

TurnOffTheTv · 21/03/2014 23:00

You felt sad for a 9yo because she was called Karen? Really? What the fuck for? It's a perfectly normal name!

squoosh · 21/03/2014 23:03

Poor 13 year old Howard. Does he drive a Rover?

TeaAndALemonTart · 21/03/2014 23:09

I like Dennis.

defineme · 21/03/2014 23:13

But whoever said they hated the name Karen? It's so inoffensive. I think it's lovely when names are passed down.

FelixFelix · 21/03/2014 23:15

My mum is Karen. I really like it.

ErrolTheDragon · 21/03/2014 23:19

Poor 13 year old Howard. Does he drive a Rover?

Don't be daft - a teenager will associate 'Howard' with driving a Mars rover. Not sure that's better .. Grin

It's funny the cyclical nature of names. A lot of the ones mentioned pityingly here were normal when I was a kid - the new popular names are the ones we'd have thought old-fashioned. The rule seems to be that it has to be at least grandparents or preferably great-grandparents vintage.

MyBootsAreMuddy · 21/03/2014 23:32

I quite like the name Karen.

I know an 11 yr old Geoffrey a 9 yr old Greggory and a 6yr old Keith.
My friend has a baby Reginald which people are a bit Hmm about, but I think Reggie is quite cool (and cute).

WolfMoon · 22/03/2014 03:03

I have a friend with a baby Norman. I have to fight the urge to yell "Norm!" every time someone carries him into the room Grin

DrewsWife · 22/03/2014 04:58

I'm Karen. I know a few too. Not many though.

overthemill · 22/03/2014 07:36

Maybe resurgence is down to acress who plays any pond in doctor who ? Karen Gillian. Or Karen carpenter fans? I loved Karen black too!

aGirlDownUnder1 · 22/03/2014 11:04

Their a 2 Margot's and a Margo in DD year and she's 14

telsa · 22/03/2014 13:13

Are there any Debbie's/ Deborah's. Every second girl was called that at my school.

tallulah · 22/03/2014 14:31

I forgot I'd started this thread Blush

I went to school in the 1960s with hundreds of Karens, so for me it just seems middle-aged, and not a modern child's name at all.

Karen has a nice sound actually but I knew several that weren't very nice (I have a similar thing about Denise) so I think that's coloured my feelings.

I teach a 15 yr old Raymond and a 12 yr old Alan.

I remember being a teenager in the late 80s and wondering why anyone would call their baby George - now there are loads of teenage/child/baby Georges.

OpalQuartz · 22/03/2014 15:00

I love Clare and Laura and Sarah.

TheReluctantCountess · 22/03/2014 20:57

Laura is my favorite name for a girl. I have only ever met nice Lauras.
