Karen.

As she was born before Outnumbered started she wasn't named after that character. I'll admit to feeling a bit Hmm about it.

My daughter has a name that's old with a twist on it its modern English. And a variant of Amy. No one has heard of it before

Breezy1985 · 21/03/2014 21:26

My 2yo niece is called Sarah, there is 2 I know of in dc school too.

squoosh · 21/03/2014 21:28

Poor 2 year old Derek!

Judyandherdreamofhorses · 21/03/2014 21:31

I can't understand why Eric is so popular, yet Derek, with one additional sound, is so reviled. I don't disagree, but don't understand!

AnimalsAreMyFriends · 21/03/2014 21:32

I know of a baby called Percy.... Not one I had anticipated tbh!

HeartShapedStone · 21/03/2014 21:34

Why poor 2yo Derek? I can't see him standing out much against the little Stanley/Arthur/other names which are coming back round after a while out of fashion.

JeanSeberg · 21/03/2014 21:34

Lol at baby Derek

squoosh · 21/03/2014 21:35

I don't like Eric either but I suppose it will remind some people of strapping Scandinavians (personally I think of Bananaman) whereas Derek just makes me think 'comb over and beige anorak'.

squoosh · 21/03/2014 21:36

Derek is Arthur/Stanley's son rather than peer.

I was born in 1958 and my middle name is Karen. Loads of Karens at the schools I went to!

squoosh · 21/03/2014 21:42

I wonder who the Karen was who started the craze for the name. There was probably some now forgotten B list move star.

letsgotostonehenge · 21/03/2014 21:47

is the baby names thread really a bad thread? all of mn seems to say 'keep off, keep off!!'

Cotherstone · 21/03/2014 21:49

I met a baby Ian recently. It's a nice name but I'm so used to hearing Presley, Stanley, Archie around here it did surprise me a bit.

LowCloudsForming · 21/03/2014 21:52

Before you can blink "Edna"and "Vera" will make a comeback.

squoosh · 21/03/2014 21:54

Ian is awful.

I just know I'm going to be one of those HORRIBLE grandmother's who shrieks 'I forbid you from naming my grandson Darren, Keith or Trevor'

HorsesDogsNails · 21/03/2014 21:57

I know a 3yo Peter and a 2yo Vincent.....

Cotherstone · 21/03/2014 22:03

I did double-take slightly, squoosh, it was a bit of a shock. Plus it was quite a young mum, I was genuinely expecting Jayden, Kai, something like that. Isn't it interesting how you have expectations of names when you see someone?

SheherazadeSchadenfreude · 21/03/2014 22:08

DD2 is 13 and her best friends are Karen and Margaret!

Mrsindecision · 21/03/2014 22:09

I know a baby Jason !

Beehatch · 21/03/2014 22:23

DS is at nursery with a 3yo Hilary

SummerRain · 21/03/2014 22:25

I know an 8 month old Raymond

And brothers percy and gilbert

And an Edith

Lots of people I know seem to be going for retro names in the last few years!

I wanted Percy for dc3 who turned out to be dd so no go but everyone kept saying "what about point Percy at the porcelain" ?

Karen is a really naice, inoffensive name IMO.

sweetkitty · 21/03/2014 22:30

DD1 has 9 year old Brian and Jason in her class

Know a 6 yo Karen
2 yo Raymond and a 2 yo John ( both named after their Dad)
5 yo Margaret
