Gray or Max?

carrie105 · 18/03/2014 16:31

We have a girls name, but are stuck on a boys name.

We like Gray and Max. He would be Grayson or Maximilian for birth certificate purposes.

I am a bit wobbly about both. I'm wobbly on Max due to DH being Matt (Matthew), and Max and Matt being a bit cutesy together (DH is unconcerned), and I love Gray, but am a bit concerned a) with Grayson being a bit 'chavvy' (sorry to use the word, but easiest way to explain), and also people thinking his full name might be Graham.

Any thoughts?

I prefer Max to Gray.

Don't worry about similarity to DH's name, plenty of people give their children the same names as them doesn't seem to raise many eyebrows.

Amy106 · 18/03/2014 16:44

I wouldn't worry about Max being so close to Matt unless your name also starts with Ma... Max, Matt and Maria, for example, would be a mouthful.

I like Max better than Gray.

findingherfeet · 18/03/2014 16:47

I like both! Grin

MichelloBarner · 18/03/2014 16:48

I like them both. Max is a strong timeless classic and Gray is simple and unusual.

MuffTheMagicDragonButter · 18/03/2014 16:52

I love Gray, unusual and simple. Wonder whether people will want to spell it Grey though?

Don't like Grayson at all, sorry.

Max is too popular IMO.

nicename · 18/03/2014 17:01

Is Gray a name? Grayson - well, Larry or Perry, hmmmmmmm.

SomethingAboutNothing · 18/03/2014 17:18

I prefer Max, and really like Maximilian. Gray is ok.

ToffeeJungle · 18/03/2014 17:45

I like both.
Gray is obviously more unusual if that makes a difference.
And I wouldn't worry about Matt and Max either.
If I had to pick Id go for Gray.

LizSurly · 18/03/2014 21:39

Grayson is yak!! I like max.
It might be too irish for u but Greagoir is nice and first syllable is gray.

soontobeslendergirl · 18/03/2014 21:47

How about Maxwell with Max for short?

I like Gray but prefer it for a girl tbh

aGirlDownUnder1 · 18/03/2014 22:11

Grayson is lovely, and unusual. Maximilian sounds so 'wet' and Max is so overused.

ChaffinchOfDoom · 18/03/2014 22:16

Gray puts Christian in my head Blush of 50 shades......

ChaffinchOfDoom · 18/03/2014 22:16

Maximillian is a James Bond villain, but better than Maxwell ....
Max as it is is lovely

mrsbug · 18/03/2014 22:26

Max is best. Normally I prefer long names for the birth certificate but Max is a name in its own right, IMO

DramaAlpaca · 18/03/2014 22:28

I prefer Max.

I saw Gray & instantly thought it was short for Graham.

Max & Matt are fine together, btw.

Mireio · 19/03/2014 00:00

I prefer Max. Gray sounds like a name for a greyhound or something.

hunreeeal · 19/03/2014 00:35

I like Max. Grayson is rather pasty and weedy.

HippoCritic · 19/03/2014 04:08

I don't like the nickname Gray, but I LOVE the name Grayson- I know a Greyson, but the Grayson spelling is nicer imo. It sounds strong and handsome, but works well for a small kid. Also wide nickname potential- as well as Gray, there's Sonny and so on.

Max sounds like a dog name imo Confused but that might just be me, so ignore it. Maximilian sounds quite cool.

KefaloniaBaby · 19/03/2014 08:22

Oh I love Gray. Loved it when pregnant with DS but my husband vetoed it. The bastard. Grin

For some reason I think I would have spelt it Grey though.

Really dislike Grayson though. A lot.

SavoyCabbage · 19/03/2014 08:24

Gray is so damp. And spell check changes to to Gary.

noodlebum · 19/03/2014 09:03

Not a fan of Maximillian (although Max on it's own is fine), quite like Gray(son) though!

pygmy · 19/03/2014 10:04

Max is a good name.

LizSurly · 19/03/2014 10:21

What about short for Grady?

Grady not my bag but it's got a bit mor giz than Grayson which is as somebody else said dusty and weedy.

I prefer Grey too.

squoosh · 19/03/2014 11:15

Maximillian is a bit Eurotrash playboy.

Gray is better.

Vickiyumyum · 19/03/2014 11:19

Max is fine, a nice name in its own right.

Gray/Grayson is horrible, I don't like it at all sorry.
