How would you pronounce Leia?

Hi all

I thought we had 2 names picked out- Olivia and Madeleine. I still love both of these. Hubby likes, but doesn't love them. He loves Leia. Now I'm not totally against, but prefer the other names we had picked. One of my major concerns about Leia is how people would pronounce it- so, please can you tell me how you'd pronounce it? It may make a middle name, I'm not sue about a first name- what do you all think of it?

Thanks in advance! :-)

I like these L names better:

Lara
Lyra
Lana
Leah (that is pronounced Lee-ah)

bronya · 10/03/2014 19:45

Lay-a like in Star Wars!

Lay-a

I love it Smile

TaurielTest · 10/03/2014 19:47

I'd say LAY-a. Fun pronunciation fact: it's not consistently pronounced the same way in the original Star Wars films. Mostly LAY-a, but there's a couple of instances of LEE-a in there too.

HolidayCriminal · 10/03/2014 19:47

Lay-uh.
I know a Leah (lee-uh)

youbethemummylion · 10/03/2014 19:51

Lay-ah as in Princess Leia but people will pronounce it leah I know a Leia and they constantly have to correct people

Orangeisthenewbanana · 10/03/2014 19:54

Lay-ah with the Leia spelling.

Lee-ah to me would be Leah.

alita7 · 10/03/2014 20:04

Lay uh like in star wars- how would you want it said?

scottishmummy · 10/03/2014 20:06

Lee-ahh

Iggi101 · 10/03/2014 20:09

I was keen on having Luke and Leah (so the Star Wars ref wouldn't be quite so obvious!). But twins did not materialise!

RosaParksIsBack · 10/03/2014 20:11

lay-uhh like star wars

Yeah, hubby is huge Star Wars fan so it's after Leia in Star Wars- so would want it pronounced as such (Lay-a). I just think we'd constantly be correcting people who mistakenly think it's Leah.....
