Thank you for a few encouraging words from recent posters. Feeling quite positive about Axel.

I keep coming on hoping someone loves Elmer (my favourite) but no luck so far Grin..

It's tricky because none of them are my sort but:

  1. Gustav
  2. Elmer
  3. Axel
  4. Casper

TBH most of them sound like cartoon characters to me, especially Casper (the friendly ghost.) Axel sounds like a car part.

alita7 · 08/03/2014 22:38

Only casper

Stat · 08/03/2014 23:50
  1. Casper - love it, and it's becoming more popular in the UK.
  1. Axel - it sounds like quite a "cool" name to me, not sure many boys/men would be able to pull it off though.
  1. Gustav - not keen on this, I find it awkward to pronounce, but love the nickname Gus.
  1. Elmer - just sounds like a female name to me, i.e. Elma.
MameHootieBench · 09/03/2014 18:52
  1. Casper (but spelled Caspar)

  2. Gustav

  3. Axel

  4. Elmer

I like them in the order you have them! Don't like Axel at all really though.

Oriunda · 09/03/2014 19:04

Caspar is nice (not keen on other spelling)
Gustav fine too

Axel -not keen
Elmer - very American wearing white socks with his sandals

BethGoLightly · 09/03/2014 19:06

I only like Casper, sorry OP.

KLou1105 · 09/03/2014 19:12

Love Elmer :-)
Like Axel :-)
Not keen on Gustav
Dislike Caspar sorry

vichill · 09/03/2014 20:46

axel
casper

I think given his heritage he is going to be gorgeous and able to carry such a name off.

Haahoooo · 09/03/2014 20:52

KLou let me shake you by the hand and thank you for liking Elmer Smile

It does seem like it will be a challenge here in Britain (where we plan to live for the foreseeable future).

And thank you vic Smile. DH (the Swedish half) tells me that in Sweden Axel is really quite normal and traditional rather than 'cool', but if course we don't live there...

Sorry none would be my choice but it's not up to us is it?

Haahoooo · 09/03/2014 21:13

Reading to thread again there have been a couple of other positive views of Elmer although not many

I think it has a pn issue actually - I notice when I say the name to British people they hear Elmo or Elma, as mentioned up thread.

OP posts:
SirChenjin · 09/03/2014 21:16

I always associate Elmer with Fudd or the coloured elephant - it's not a pn issue.

Axel = Axel Rose from Guns n Roses Grin

SirChenjin · 09/03/2014 21:16

Axl Rose

AlpacaYourThings · 09/03/2014 21:18

Sorry OP, but none of the appeal.

Lara and Thor as PP'd have suggested are much better.

AlpacaYourThings · 09/03/2014 21:18

*Lars

SirChenjin · 09/03/2014 21:23

I like Olaf/Olov

Haahoooo · 09/03/2014 21:33

Thor - God of Thunder - now there's a name that would require some carrying off Grin

A lot of great Swedish names - including Lars are ruled out through family / friends having those names.

Sven was on the long list but discarded for England manager reasons.

We have spent a long time finding the four remaining names listed, honestly!

Thank you all, though, for your views!

Casper..cute little ghost

Cezella · 12/03/2014 23:13

I love Axel!

livingatheendofthewall · 13/03/2014 01:22

What about Elwood instead of Elmer - nickname Woody?

mathanxiety · 13/03/2014 04:02

Axel
Gustav
Caspar

Elmer

mathanxiety · 13/03/2014 04:04

Elmer is Elmer Fudd to me.

I love Axel and Gustav, and like Casper a lot (or Caspar).

Dirtybanana · 13/03/2014 04:08

Elmer Fudd or Elmer the elephant?

All the rest - ok!
