Wondering what names would go well with Percy, for a boy. I don't like names that are common and I don't like way out there names. I'm more a old man kind of baby namer... Thanks in advance for suggestions Wink

Ralph!!!

Boys called Percy/Wilfred would be laughed out of school where I live, but if you live in a different area mixing in only similar circles to yourself, am sure they are acceptable names.

I think Albert/arthur/Philip/constantine (con) would go well with Percy.

Chester sounds quite a 'cool' name but we had a school bus driver who was called this and we used to refer to him as Chester Chester child molester and that's all I can think about when I hear the name (nb the poor man was NOT a child molester)

Wilf Wilfred

Percy is an absolutely dreadful name that has been used colloquially as a 'name' for the penis e.g. going to the toilet is Pointing Percy at the Porcelain.

Maybe the young generation don't see this connection but the older generations will. Poor kid to be saddled with such a ghastly name.

Burren · 12/03/2014 10:18

I don't remember the OP asking for opinions on Percy. It's not a name I feel strongly about positively or negatively, but I knew a little Percy in Cornwall some time ago, and he was both delightful and apparently unscathed.

OpalQuartz · 12/03/2014 10:23

Percy is the name of the OPs older child, so it is of no help to criticise that one. It's the not yet born child she wants advice on

Bowlersarm · 12/03/2014 10:24

What a horrible post GillTheGiraffe That child has already been named Percy.

Your post can only be designed to upset, distress, or anger the OP.

No wonder someone started a thread about how many nasty posters there are now on MN. Quite true. One here to be added to the list.

Wishfulmakeupping · 12/03/2014 10:28

How fecking rude that's OP older child's name!
I stand by what I said Percy is a fab name (not that you even asked for opinions on it OP)

HyvaPaiva · 12/03/2014 10:33

GillTheGiraffe That's nasty. You aren't talking about a hypothetical possible name choice, he's an actual little boy called Percy.

GillTheGiraffe · 12/03/2014 10:34

Sorry - I thought she was asking for names that went with Percy i.e. as additional names to her intended name of Percy. The OP didn't say she had already anmed the child Percy. That fact didn't come up until a few posts later (as I can now see).

So, apologies if what I said has upset but I can't help the fact that Percy has been a sniggery name for the male member in earlier decades. Even the OP has acknoledged that. I just explained what those 'negative' connocatations are.

Don't shoot the messenger in your haste to find something offensive.

Bowlersarm · 12/03/2014 10:40

Ok Gill thanks for explaining. You must see why we thought it was so rude though. And I don't think anyone below the age of about 50 would use Percy in a reference to peeing. I haven't heard anyone say that for years.

GillTheGiraffe · 12/03/2014 10:48

It's a brave choice as a name. It was one of my grandfather's and he was born in 1890. His brother's names were Thomas, Henry and Clifton, if that helps.

Strongecoffeeismydrug · 12/03/2014 10:51

Ralph, Donald,Douglas or Arthur Grin
Love them all

frazzledoldbag · 12/03/2014 11:22

Hugo? I have one and love it. Had my fair share of eye rolling when we called him that, mostly from the in laws but don't care. It suits him, and he likes it although he is only 4 so calls himself 'Shoe-go'! Think it would 'go' nicely with Percy too.

anotherplace · 12/03/2014 11:30

I personally don't think the names have to " go" with each other, I mean it's not like you've got yourself a couple of cute kittens.
I like the names;
Hugo, Peter, Rowan and Fraser.

wizzler · 12/03/2014 11:37

Wilf sounds fab with Percy.

Chottie · 13/03/2014 05:22

I have two great uncles and they are called Percy and Walter and are known in the family as Perce and Wally.

JessicaD21 · 13/03/2014 19:32

Edward and Thomas are the first names that spring to mind to go with Percy - which is a fab name! Chester is really nice though.

JessicaD21 · 13/03/2014 19:37

Oh and henry! Percy and henry too cute! Bertie perhaps? - ive just realised as im writing this these are all good old fashioned style names from thomas the tank engine, might be a good place to look for names they all seen to go nicely with percy IMHO x

dollius · 13/03/2014 20:21

I think Percy is lovely!

How about:

Arthur
Frank
Frederick
Alfred
Archie
Maurice
Lawrence

dollius · 13/03/2014 20:22

Ralph!

Yes, I love that too.
