My dd2 is now 2 and half weeks old and I just cant get used to her name , I find myself calling her by nicknames . I worry the name is for lack of a better word "Chavvy.
We had 2 names choose before she was born but she didnt suit either of them , dh choose her name when she was 4 days old he loves it.
Basically just wanting to know if anyone has felt this way? did you grow to love the name ?

What's the name? I think it's fine to change it if she's only two weeks old.

However dd didn't really suit her name when she was a newborn as she has a lovely grown up name which she will grow into, so I mainly called her by nicknames for the first few months

Can you call her by her middle name? My brother is known by his middle name and it has always been so. But maybe that's a man thing, as I've heard of other men who go by their middle names.

p.s. if the name is not registered, I would just change it if you're not happy with it.

We registered her on tuesday so too late unless we do deed poll (I think), dh loves it he keeps telling me I will get used to it I never told him I disliked it until today. There isnt even another name I think would suit her better , the name was'nt even one we had discussed which makes it harder to get used to its Emmie.

Her middle name I loved at the time, it was one of her possible first names but now it makes me cringe its one that should stay a middle name.

I named my ds as was a lone parent, and although I never admitted it to anyone, I was filled with doubt that I'd made the wrong choice! For ages I would say things like, he's not an Oscar is he? Or do you think he looks like a james? (Neither are his name!) for what it's worth, ds is now nearly 2 and is just IS his name. I can't think at what point that happened though. Try not to worry, I'm not sure how much a baby can really suit a name, given they are just so brand new scrunched up wee things!

Emmie is very lovely.

Not quite the same but my DH named our dogs (Hunnie and Koko...yes- ironic spelling and all) and I hated them. I still think they are not creative at all and feel embarrassed telling people their name, but they are 2 dogs with stupid names. Emmie is a lovely little name for a sweet little girl.

Do you hate it, or just are you just not keen on it? There's a huge difference, I think.

I have 4 DCs, and have real regrets about one of their names. The name that DC in question has, really suits him, and it's lovely, it's just I wished I had not agreed to it and had stuck to my guns.

I don't hate his name, infact it's fine, and as I said, it does suit him, it's just that my first choice name was much better and nicer, imho.

Double check tomorrow, or google it now, I'm sure there is a period of grace, where you can change it without deed poll. There's a time limit though, so have a chat with DH tonight and research it....I hope it's not too late. xx

Emmie is lovely. It's not chavvy IMO.

You could try playing with nicknames to see if something sticks

You have a year to change it if needs be!! I had a wobble with the spelling of my daughters name and thought a lot about changing it...didn't though!

For me I was exhausted and overwhelmed and it's such a big, final decision to make I think it made me panic...

I love the name Emmie. It's the name of my dear friend's 9 year old dd and she is amazing!

If I felt like you did I think I'd change the name. I'm sure I've read that it's fairly easy to do in a very young child. It does feel a bit strange calling a new baby by a name sometimes. Any name that is. But they soon become little people in their own right. But if you really don't like the name no harm in changing it.

Im hoping its just becuase I havent had a chance to get used to it , for 9 months she was nameless our other daughter was named from the day we found out I was having a girl.
Thank motleymop and StrawberryMojito dh and dd think it suits her perfectly its just me thats not convinced.

sillymillyb thats so true she has chaged so much since she was born already ,I just worry that her name will hold her back in life I know thats probably irrational , I admit I am probably a hormonal mess.

You have a year to change it if you want though.

I guess you could always change it to Emily or Emma or Emmaline and call her Emmie and then you would have options if you grew to dislike it later?

It's not "chavvy" at all. Personally, I would think it might be short for something else (I might even ask you) but if you told me it wasn't I would still think it a really lovely name.

I was never 100% about DD's name...for lots of reasons. 8 years on I'm still not convinced, but all the names which would have really suited her, DH didn't like at all.

But, yes, you have a year to change your mind.

I think Emmie is a lovely name. cute when she is young, cool when she is a teen, and suits an adult too. and But only you can decide whether you can really live with it.

I think most names sound wrong on babies! It takes a long time for them to grow into it. But I think once other people start talking to you and referring to her by her name, it sort of sounds right, and one day it clicks, this is your baby, and this is what she is called. After a while you just dont query what they are called - they have become their name! Both my girls I felt didnt suit their name when they were born - they are grown up now, and I really like their names - and more to the point, so do they!! I think you just need to give it some more time, she is still very new. And yes, its a lovely name!!
