One of the One Direction boys has become the older sibling to boy/girl twins named Doris and Ernest.

Thoughts?

FAB names!

I can't remember what I was reading yesterday, but I came across the name Ernest and decided it would have been on my shortlist if I was having any more children. (it might end up a guinea pig name instead).

Trooperslane · 12/02/2014 20:51

Horrific. Sorry.

smother · 12/02/2014 20:59

First thought: I love the name Doris

Alisvolatpropiis · 12/02/2014 21:00

See I quite like Ernest.

Together though, they sound like a couple who married circa 1920

AWful. My grandmother was called Doris, and wanted me to be named after her.
That would have been great in a class full of Susans, Wendys and Janes.

Sarahplane · 12/02/2014 21:01

Horrible names

Azquilith · 12/02/2014 21:01

I have a guinea pig called Ernest

MrsBungle · 12/02/2014 21:01

Absolutely horrendous. Goodness, I'm usually more tactful than that.

BelieveinWigan · 12/02/2014 21:01

Louis, Charlotte (Lottie), Felicte (Fizzy), Daisy, Phoebe, Doris and Ernest well wow

Norfolknway · 12/02/2014 21:03

Bad. Sorry! X

familyfortunes · 12/02/2014 21:10

bloody awful Shock

ShadowFall · 12/02/2014 21:12

I just cannot warm to Doris as a name.

Ernest is slightly better, but not much.

They're not names I like.

I was just struck by how "old person names coming back" they were.

*like as in - would actually use.

Ernest has it's merits, but I'd never actually use it. Much like Zeus.

I'd definitely choose Ernest over Zeus if I was naming a baby!

My Ds2's middle name is Ernest! Its after his great grandfather. My dh was considering giving it as his first name but I drew the line there!

roweeena · 12/02/2014 21:36

Aren't you a grumpy lot. Lovely names, it would be boring if we all liked the same names wouldn't it

bigkidsdidit · 12/02/2014 21:39

I don't like them, and I have an Albert! I guess a little Ernie could be cute?

PipkinsPal · 12/02/2014 21:40

My maternal Grandmother was a Doris and a little girl was named after her (1950's) but they always called her Dollo. My paternal Grandmother was an Edith. I'm so, so glad my parents never gave me and my sister second names.

EirikurNoromaour · 12/02/2014 21:40

Doris! Ridiculous. And Ernest isn't great either. How can you call a newborn baby Doris? Or Ernest!

StopSquabbling · 12/02/2014 21:40

Absolutely awful.

Froblawd · 12/02/2014 21:41

Snap theapp. My DS has Ernest as a middle name after his late great grandfather. DH also wanted it to be his first name but we settled in another. I think it's a great name.

Alisvolatpropiis · 12/02/2014 21:45

My lovely elderly neighbour was called Doris, she was convinced I was called Jane (nothing like my actual name) and was a really sweet old lady.

I'm sure Doris will have a come back but not yet. My Nanna thinks Doris is an "old lady" name and she's 76 Grin

Some of the resurrected names are fabulous. These so aren't.
