Alternative to Willow?

I really want to name our daughter this but Dh is having none of it ( tho he gets quite faint during the births & agrees to anything on his recovery so if all else fails I'll take advantage of that! ;) )
Can anyone who's a lover of Willow offer any alternatives?

I love Willow, but Irish dh would never let me away with any of the hippy-nature names I love either.
I know a Thea in Dublin and never, ever hear her mispronounced, Tia's quite nice anyway though :)

It sounds like your DH favours quite classic names, but names that were so popular in the recent past that they now sound a bit passé.. there are some great names similar to those on his list.. What about Clara, Marni, Rosa, Isabel or Anabel?

I like Willow too. I wouldn't be overly concerned if she's not slim and tall, I don't think that matters too much. What is it you like about the name - the sound, the nature aspect, etc? It might help us think of other names.

Hazel
Pamela (means Honey)
Melissa (also Honey and/or Bee)
Millie
Rowan
Rowena
Iona
Abigail
Luna
Rosie/Rose
Lily
Wren
Holly
Linda

Does he say why he doesn't like the name Willow? When I was a teen, it would have made people think of Buffy, but that's on the wane now, Bella and Edward are more vampire-y names now.

Your DH sounds a bit 80s although I kind of agree with him about Willow.

My list of names is;

Collette
Cosette
Aurelia
Ophelia
Daniella
Evelyn
Grace

Willow is lovely and a name I like a lot.

However I am firmly of the belief that BOTH parents has to like the name that they JOINTLY pick for THEIR baby.

My children are not named what I would have named them if I had decided alone

But they are named names that were meaningful for dh and I and names that bound us closer together in finding them.

IMO you need to go back to the drawing board. If you don't like his list (and they seem to be more traditional than Willow) try to find a common ground.. I would suggest looking at names in the 1000 list of names and finding the traditional ones you like and suggest those to him.

(as I think you want unusual and He wants traditional)

also as an add..

Why is it acceptable for you to say " my dd will NOT be named this" but not ok for your dh to feel this about a name " you" like?

gindrinker · 05/02/2014 17:11

I like willow.
I know sisters Willow and Fern.

Love iris or ivy. How about Ruby?

TheLeftovermonster · 06/02/2014 19:46

I like Willow, didn't realise it was so popular with celebrities. That would put me off, I think.
Ivy is nice too!

Frik - thanks for the relationship advice there....that was additional was it?! It was just an opinion on the name I was interested in Wink
