In fairness aren't these threads relatively light hearted?

It's no different to asking opinions on a specified name. It's just a personal opinion - it does not make it fact. I'm not that interested in baby names and if I was sensitive about it I wouldn't read the thread.

What is wrong with gaylord anyway? Smile

My sons name. I hate it, its so shite. Worse name ever.

Well must be as it appears here often.

It begins with the dreaded K.

People.could call their children ShitStain-TibbyLane* for all I care. I couldn't give a less of a fuckle about what other people name their children.

*Feel free to use it.

DSs name is sometimes called pretentious. The shortened version (which we call him) is a dog name.

I think I did pretty well to fail on two distinct areas of name hatred Grin

My DS has a name that's (gasp) popular - the most popular in fact - a cardinal sin on MN.

Our DS probably have the same name shabba Grin

It's Kyle, was brought up on the last "worst baby names" thread and definitely seems to be on the mumsnet never call your child this list Grin

But we love it and he really suits in. I don't know any other little boys with the same name but going by lots of posts on baby names there are hundreds of them running around causing mayhem and throwing things at teachers

DD2 has a K name that is also a nickname. Two strikes for me!

DS name doesn't sound good when screeched by Bianca on Eastenders but suits him down to the ground.

These threads are disgusting and goady, and created only to hurt and sneer at people. And it's CHILDREN who are being discussed. For fuck's sake.

I'm intrigued, Waiting! Do you have a Monty, Toby or (P)Tolly? Or is your son called something like Rover Barksworth the Third?

LilBlonde

Whilst I see your point, it isn't children being discussed, it's names. Names belong to adults too. Some names mentioned are not exactly in common use at any rate.

It interests me how a name can effect how you are perceived etc

I do find it tiresome when people trot out the same names all the time. Certainly some of these names are not my style but...Jaden (for example) just isn't the worst name one could possibly have. It just isn't. It's easy to say and spell, people are familiar with it. There's no "WTAF is that actually even a real word never mind a name" thoughts when the name is said aloud.

Just thought I'd also say, I didn't make this thread for people to involve children or even baby names. I was just curious to see what names people didn't like, and I was pointing more towards old names that aren't very much heard of these days, and very rarely used as children's names. I was not trying to upset people for any reason whatsoever, I would simply delete this thread if I could! Didn't expect to get so much grief, and also.. I have an aunt called
Gertrude who hates her name, it's not like I was pointing out random names to offend people. This is just stupid, how do I delete this thread??

i love how many people claim to be affronted by these threads, yet contribute anyway!!!

controversial comment here im afraid, but i genuinely believe that whilst making us all guilty of being nasty cow bags, some of the threads here do spare some poor souls a lifetime of torment over truly diabolical names!
