Too different?

Have recently come across the name 'Nova', was delighted to find its a pretty old name (I like olden names) that has disappeared pretty much off radar since early 1900's.

I like that its meaning is 'new' and that a Nova is a star that suddenly shines much brighter than usual, I just like that whole image, combined with the name.

Thoughts on the name? Smile

Vauxhall Wink

sonlypuppyfat · 30/12/2013 01:31

Silly she won't thank you for it. Can you imagine phoning for insurance and you have to tell someone your name is Nova.

NoComet · 30/12/2013 01:43

As a one time astronomy student, I would have trouble not making, making puns.

Hi Nova, it's Super to see you. I hear your birthday party went with a Bang.

Poor Nova, she looks quite Bright, but she's actually very Dense inside.

MissBurrows · 30/12/2013 01:44

I think it's really pretty, but she will get the Vauxhall jokes.

wannabedomesticgoddess · 30/12/2013 01:45

Its Avon backwards.

MissPlumBroughtALadder · 30/12/2013 01:46

I love it. There's an Australian politician called Nova Peris - don't think anyone has trouble taking her seriously due to her name.

DuchessFanny · 30/12/2013 02:01

I want to like it, with it being older and it's meaning, but I can't get past the vauxhall connection.

Mrswellyboot · 30/12/2013 02:15

Maybe a little too different for me. Though I like it, you can't beat an old classic.

I'm very boring

TransatlanticCityGirl · 30/12/2013 04:10

It's not a name that appeals to me personally, but I do prefer when parents choose something a bit unique so I'd say go for it - it's not a terrible name. TBH I think it's the parents not the children you need to be worried about when it comes to teasing.

I went to secondary school with a girl called Novaline which is similar-ish.

Rosencrantz · 30/12/2013 06:05

Really grotty club night at uni was called Nova.

MadIsTheNewNormal · 30/12/2013 06:10

It's different, but not outlandish. i'm not wild about it, but it's not awful either.

TobyLerone · 30/12/2013 06:11

I used to have a hairdresser called Nova. Nobody ever believed that that was her actual given name.

Chottie · 30/12/2013 06:20

Sorry............. another no.

Eastpoint · 30/12/2013 06:35

Doesn't it mean 'doesn't go' in Spanish? I think it is one of the classic marketing fails, who would buy a car which means 'no go'?

Neri means my burning light (Hebrew) or ocean spirit (Greek). Is that appealing?

MabelBee · 30/12/2013 06:37

I like it but I haven't heard of the car, which would make it a no for me. A friend of mine has a Nola which I think is lovely.

Madamecastafiore · 30/12/2013 07:07

Yep means doesn't go in Spanish.

That would put me off I think.

saintmerryweather · 30/12/2013 07:15

I like it. People can associate negative connotations with any name and its got to be better than just being yet another Ava/Eva/Tilly/Milly. If you like it go for it!

badtime · 30/12/2013 09:44

I knew someone called Nova when I was at university. I thought it was cool, and I never thought of the car.

BettyMacdonald · 30/12/2013 10:29

I love it! Lovely name

callamia · 30/12/2013 10:35

I think it's pretty cool, and noone has had a nova car since forever ago, so kids won't make that association only their parents showing their age...

I like it.

Sorry, it made me think instantly of cars.

How about Stella?

HowAboutNo · 30/12/2013 12:29

I hate that car manufacturers use nice names. It's nice and I probably wouldn't think twice if I met a Nova, though I might be singing Champagne Supernova in my head Grin

TheBunsOfPanettone · 30/12/2013 12:56

Howabout it's annoying but I suppose it's understandable car manufacturers don't go for Gertrude and Mildred Grin

200Cigarettes · 30/12/2013 14:46

I like it sounds pretty and lovely meaning
