Hello

Would like opinions good or bad on the following baby names.

They will be used with a double-barrelled surname. And will also have two /3 Middle names.

Boys:

     George
     Henry
     Alexander
     Ptolemy
     Augustus
     Fox
     Raphael
     Ralph
     Artemis
     Tarquin
     Rafferty

Girls:

     Celeste
     Cosima
     Araminta
     Arabella
     Alexandrina
     Marina
     Isabelle
     Cecily
     Penelope
     Camilla
     Georgiana
     Helena
     Clementine
     Ottilie
     Regina

Any other suggestions would be most welcome.

2/3 middle names plus double barrelled surname, I'd go with the fewest syllables tbh. I like George for a boy, not sure about the girls names, they are all quite a mouthful. Also all pretty posh! Why about Kate for a girl, you could always do Katherine as 'proper name' but call it Kate day to day?

Puddles1234 · 25/12/2013 23:37

Thank you for the reply, Catherine is a lovely name however it is a family name so sadly it's a no go.

George is one of my favourites for a boy but OH thinks it will be over used now the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have named their baby George.

Think about the form filling before you give your child so many names! Grin

Lebkuchenlover · 26/12/2013 07:45

Love most of your names, op, especially Rafferty, Raphael and Ralph for boys and Celeste for girls.

Personally find George a little dull in comparison.

thehouseoflego · 26/12/2013 08:16

Cosima or Rafferty.

What about Marina for a girl? Always loved this name.

Agree with pp about the form filling..nightmare! Grin

thehouseoflego · 26/12/2013 08:17

What about Hugh?

Lovely name, very underused IMHO.

SS3J · 26/12/2013 08:37

I thought Artemis was a girl's name. Isn't it the name of a goddess? Nice name though!

ToffeeJungle · 26/12/2013 11:58

Agree that this could result in a very long name for your child so maybe a one or two syllable name would be best.
Some of your list are a bit posh for me too!
Saying that I do like Alexander (prefer just Alex) and Georgiana (prefer Georgia).

Hugh
Fraser
Spencer
Amos
Ellis

Eden
Maeve
Iris
Seren
Thea

Sleepthief · 26/12/2013 12:03

Artemis is a goddess's name, so probs best to avoid for a boy Smile

Puddles1234 · 26/12/2013 16:23

Thank you for your replies! Artemis is indeed a goddesses name however it strikes me as more masculine. If we choose Artemis he would probably be known as Artie for short.

We don't mind about the long name as we have two middle names each plus our double barrelled surname. We don't use our middle names in everyday life so it's not much of an issue.

The names I posted above are what we like so any suggestions within the same vein would be welcome.

Marina is on our list for a girl and I adore it so pretty. I'm not a fan of Hugh in all honesty. Alexander would be Alexander and defiantly not Alex.

HyvaPaiva · 26/12/2013 16:30

I'm afraid I don't like the male names list. Also, just in case you didn't realise, Artemis is actually a female name.

Cosima and Marina are the loveliest of the female names.

HyvaPaiva · 26/12/2013 16:31

Ooh, cross-posts about Artemis!

thehouseoflego · 26/12/2013 16:52

Not sure how I missed Marina! Dohh

The only Artemis I know are girls, think you're setting your son up for a hard time. Whist you might wish your son only to been known as Alexander once he's at school it's frankly fair game. We have little if no control over our childrens nicknames!

Puddles1234 · 26/12/2013 19:10

I see Artemis is controversial so I will perhaps strike that off the list, I have had mixed reviews and OH is not really that convinced anyways!

Our front runners at the moment for a boy are, Alexander, George, Augustus, Ptolemy and Rafferty with Fox used as one of the middle names. For a girl, Marina, Celeste, Camilla, Araminta (NN Minty) and Ottilie.

Any other suggestions would be much appreciated as we really don't have a definite and any suggestions about the middle names to use would be fantastic!

OhCaptainDarling · 27/12/2013 12:09

Think Fox as a middle name is fab.

What about Athena? Beautiful name IMHO.

Love your girls choices, I do find boys so much harder.

SS3J · 27/12/2013 17:45

I also like Fox as a middle name. My favourite of your first names is Alexander (but you may struggle to stop it being shortened). George I find a bit boring. Augustus is brave, but potentially quite cool I think. I don't like Ptolemy or Rafferty. I think all your girls' names are good, except Araminta, which I really hate! Sorry, only an opinion so if you love it then obviously use it!

SS3J · 27/12/2013 17:46

I think Ottilie Celeste would be a great name.

Confitdecanard · 27/12/2013 17:49

My favourites from your lists are Ralph and Cosima.

Sundaedelight · 27/12/2013 19:59

Love most of your names, I like your style.
Best boys name - Ralph.
Best girls name - Araminta.

DocHudson · 27/12/2013 20:00

Do you like Clara?

Puddles1234 · 27/12/2013 23:09

I absolutely adore the name Athena I have added it to the list for middle names, thank you for the suggestion.

Boys names are a nightmare, Fox is a definite middle name. Is there any more suggestions for boys names?

Araminta (NN Minty) is one of favourites it's such a pretty name.

Clara is adorable however I love the other names more. I have added it to the list for middle names though as it is rather pretty.

Does anyone like Romilly?!

OP posts:
BonnieWeeJeannieMcCall · 28/12/2013 05:36

"Alexander would be Alexander and definitely not Alex" - once he goes to school, you can't stop it being shortened. That goes for all your names, of course - Augustus might become Gus, Raphael and Rafferty might become Raff, etc.

Don't call a girl Regina - too close to vagina.

CPtart · 28/12/2013 06:27

Like Alexander and Helena. None of the others.

How about Lawrence or Louisa?

Lebkuchenlover · 28/12/2013 07:34

A long name lIke Alexander will inevitably be shortened, I'm afraid.

I really like Raphael from your list. We have a Quentin, which you might like?

Onesleeptillwembley · 28/12/2013 17:52

Boys are mainly fine, but fox? Wtf? Just don't.
