Fiona, Sophie, or Tess?

Love all three, and they all work well with our (very unusual and often misspelt) surname.

39 weeks yesterday and we still can't decide... probably going to wait till she arrives and see what she looks like Grin

Please don't say 'there are too many Sophies' as I have a huge circle of children in my life through friends/family/church etc and NOT ONE of them is named Sophie.

Fiona. It's my daughter's name; she's fab. She's mostly Fi or Fifi. I think it's a strong, straightforward name but a bit marmite...you either love it or hate it. I'd go for Tess second; I think it's another strong, sensible name. Sophie is a bit more girly, I think. If that's important to you.

bzoo · 21/12/2013 17:33

Mynameiswinkly.... Do I know you?! ShockGrin

MyNameIsWinkly · 21/12/2013 17:37

Bzoo... I don't think so, 'my' Fiona is a MNer but is up to her eyeballs in houseguests today and won't be posting here!

bzoo · 21/12/2013 17:41

Ahh no I'm being boring today! But as a 29 year old Fiona. Who is awesome Wink I was a bit ShockShockShockShock

GimmeDaBoobehz · 21/12/2013 18:20

Sophie first
then Tess
then Fiona

I don't really like Fiona but do like Sophie and Tess.

Kittykatmacbill · 21/12/2013 20:01

Please pick tess! Lovely dh vetoed it, it does have the same initial as him but still. The other two are fine, but tess is lovely.

tiamariaxxx · 21/12/2013 22:27

Ive got to say Sophie as thats my daughters name :)

lestagal78 · 21/12/2013 22:28

If you like the Fi nickname Sofie works for that.

In my experience Sophie although the stats say they are everywhere they really aren't.

Tess is not my bag and Fiona is dated.

kmini · 21/12/2013 22:52

Sorry going to attempt a thread hijack. ;)

Tess seems to be a standout winner. It is dh & my current fave - but I would be disappointed if it became too popular. We are still ttc'ing, so a little bit prematurely asking this question...however how many Tessa/tess do you know & where are you?

Tikkamasala · 22/12/2013 02:30

Fiona

squoosh · 22/12/2013 03:13

Fiona

Tess

Sophie

squoosh · 22/12/2013 03:15

Sophie is the most boring girls name.

trufflesnuffler · 22/12/2013 03:26

Fiona .shrek connotations and the Fiona I know has a very large head.

Tess...Daly... enough said.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 22/12/2013 03:31

Tess.

Strong, clever, no nonsense but fun loving. One of life's true participants, not merely one of its spectators. Thrives on 5 hours of sleep a night. Passionate about a few important things in her life. Throws on the crumpled clothes from yesterday, drags her fingers through her hair, and looks like a million bucks. As at home on a Harley Davidson as on a hunter. A future Mumsnetter.

mathanxiety · 22/12/2013 03:39

Tess - tis gorgeous.

squoosh · 22/12/2013 03:43

Honestly, the Shrek links to Fiona never arise. Ever.

Upcycled · 22/12/2013 09:05

If you go for Tess ad 'a' at the end. Tessa sounds better. Or maybe Jessica ( Jess / Jessa)

wigglesrock · 22/12/2013 09:30

I'm not being contrary Smile but this term I went into my dds class to read & said "my name is Fiona" to which 30 six year olds said "like Shrek" .

TessOfTheBaublevilles · 22/12/2013 16:16

Tess Daly is NOT a real Tess.

Her birth name is Helen Elizabeth, Tess is her nickname, but NOT her real name.

NigellasDealer · 22/12/2013 16:20

Sophie is the best; Tess is next, esp if an shortening of Theresa, Fiona sounds like Shrek or a riding instructor with grey hair and a fag.

curiousgeorgie · 22/12/2013 17:13

The Fiona I know is a complete and utter bitch... Which puts me off Wink

I love Tess.

Skogkat · 22/12/2013 19:29

I LOVE Sophie, it sounds cheerful and pretty. After that, Tess. Short and strong/bold sounding.

WonderOfYou · 22/12/2013 22:22

It's got to be Sophie or Tess...I have 3 dd's, and two of them have these names, so obviously I think they're both great choices. I honestly haven't come across that many Sophie's, (no others in her class or circle of friends). On the other hand, I have not met or heard of a single other Tess / Tessa in the eight years I've been mixing with small children, so it is the more unusual of the two if you want something distinctive. I think you need to go with your heart on which name you love, ignore the popularity thing if you love Sophie more. Tess or Sophie - beautiful choices, you can't go wrong!

DramaAlpaca · 22/12/2013 22:28

Tess, Sophie and Fiona, in that order.

SaltyGoodness · 23/12/2013 03:21

Gosh, such strong views for and against all three!!!

Going to have to wait and see what she looks like Smile

Nigella I have so far managed not to be put off by multiple references to Shrek but your comment of Fiona = riding instructor with grey hair and a fag.... PMSL Grin you are EVIL. But v funny.
