I have become aware that I choose marmite names so interested to hear what you think of our current short list!

Monty
Rupert
Clement
Hector

I've had opinions on some before but we are still really up in the air.

Go on, let me have it!

Gosh. I'm getting too pregnant and hormonal for some of these comments.
The comment about Them bring un-masculine really stung. There are lots of boys names that I can't stand though so I'm sure we might just be in different name camps.

Baby coming Monday so I think we will see how he looks!

I only like Rupert if it's followed by Penry-Jones, but I really like the other 3 - and Clem is a great diminutive, so that would swing it for me.

UpTheFRIGGinDuff · 16/11/2013 17:54

moo I love all of the names, they're all perfectly nice and on many previous threads they've been universally liked by all Confused

CarryOnDancing · 16/11/2013 18:44

I love Monty, like Clement and dislike Rupert and Hector.

mathanxiety · 16/11/2013 20:14

I love Clement and like Hector a lot.

I greatly dislike Monty and agree Rupert is a joke name.

Shoutymomma · 16/11/2013 20:24

Clement Freud
Rupert Bear
Monty Python
Hector's House

No.

TheNunsOfGavarone · 16/11/2013 20:36

I love Rupert and Clement but don't like Hector and Monty at all.

Rtfairy · 17/11/2013 11:51

Like Rupert the most, not keen on the others.

Rtfairy · 17/11/2013 11:54

Don't think the others are horrible or anything though, just not my cup of tea

KLou1105 · 17/11/2013 23:33

Love rupert, Hector's okay, don't like clement, and really dislike monty as my friend has a very annoying dog with this name x

nooka · 18/11/2013 02:33

We thought about Hector, as the original Hector is a great (if tragic) hero. My only issue with it, as with Clement is that it doesn't lend itself to any shortenings (neither Hec not Clem are really very nice IMO).

I know a lovely Rupert/Rupe, so like that, Monty to me will be forever a cat, plus I don't like diminutives as given names.

Hopefully when your baby arrives (good luck!) one name will just seem right for him.

InTheFace · 18/11/2013 03:45

Clement is the only one for me.

Monty - diminutive, not for a grown man unless he's a gardener or artistic

Rupert - just a bit wet, really.

Hector - ok, but fits certain personalities better than others.

None of these would work especially well outside the UK, incidentally. May be an issue for your son down the line.

Good luck for Monday, and congratulations!!

Mumpiring · 18/11/2013 07:24

mootime I know some people hate it when posters suggest other names, but other posters welcome it, but what about Victor ?

It's unusual enough but not trendy like Hector, sounds very similar but instead of being a verb to nag, it means ... Victor!

AnAdventureInCakeAndWine · 18/11/2013 07:45

"None of these would work especially well outside the UK, incidentally"

Clement is a top 20 name in France and a top 100 name in Belgium.
Hector is a top 50 name in Spain.

HyvaPaiva · 18/11/2013 07:52

Hector, I love.

The others I don't like very much but in order of 'hate least' as you asked:

Monty
Clement
Rupert

Mattissy · 18/11/2013 09:36

I have friends Rupert and Hector. Rupert is a super cool guy. Hector is cool, the name is used more widely in Hispanic countries, he's Venezuelan. Love both names, Monty is ok too.

Clement is hideous! Lol

southerngirlNZ · 18/11/2013 09:37

None if them are my cup of tea probably because i had a really annoying teacher called Rupert and don't like Hector, Monty's alright but if i had to choose it would be Clement (my best friend is Clementine!)

Mim78 · 18/11/2013 16:24

I like Clement.

SteeleyeStan · 18/11/2013 18:36

I like Rupert, the others not at all.

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 18/11/2013 18:37

They are all dreadful names. The least dreadful is Clement, the most dreadful Rupert.

mootime · 20/11/2013 09:35

Baby born. Despite much MN negativity he is Hector, and a very cute one indeed!
