Which one do you prefer and why?

Alice - I have one. I like that it can't be shortened or there isn't an obvious shortening.

I do also love Alexandra though. I don't like Alex as a short version.

redrubyshoes · 21/10/2013 22:40

I love both but my favourite is Alexandra but as Alexandria. I love Alex and Lexie as nicknames.

My names for a dd were:

Alexandria Charlotte
Alice Charlotte

smithwillsam · 22/10/2013 07:13

I love both name but Alice my favorite, Because it is either way still a cute girl name ages well.

2cats2many · 22/10/2013 07:27

I love both.

CrustaceanRelation · 22/10/2013 07:30

Alice

Coupon · 22/10/2013 09:40

I prefer Alexandra. It has more personality about it.

GeekInThePink · 22/10/2013 09:44

Alice, just a beautiful classic name biased

Inglori0us · 22/10/2013 10:13

I had this exact debate! We went for Alexandra in the end because we liked that there were quite a few nn options as with Alice all you have is Ally, which I wasn't keen on.
She's mostly called Alex or Lex.

playingwithlegos · 22/10/2013 10:24

I agree with coupon - Alexandra has more personality! But Alice is more feminine.

We tossed up between these two as well and went for Alice.

iseenodust · 22/10/2013 10:34

Alexandra
(there was a very spiteful Alice at my school years ago so just not a name with good vibes for me)

Lucyadams184 · 22/10/2013 10:41

I prefer Alexandra but I like both.

Idreamofsunshine · 22/10/2013 10:43

Alexandra is lovely. I dislike Alice it sounds really twee.

playingwithlegos · 22/10/2013 10:45

I think Alexandra sounds better fro a grown up and Alice - for a little girl! But Alice as nickname for Alexandra would probably be strange :-)))

Brodicea · 22/10/2013 10:52

How about Alix - it's the Germanic form of Alice (think Beatrice / Beatrix). I am totally being biased BTW

playingwithlegos · 22/10/2013 11:00

Love Alix but I think it is a) Likely to be considered as a boys' name as similar to Alex and b) a bit medieval-sounding :-)

Or Alys (an old spelling of Alice, found more in welsh or old french).

My DH thinks it better because it doesn't contain -lice!

AliceinSlumberland · 22/10/2013 22:25

I'm an Alice (obviously) and love my name, even as a grown up! I never really get called a nickname at all.

hurricanemum · 23/10/2013 21:52

Alice - pretty, classic, not too fussy
Alexandra - bit pretentious (sorry) but I really love Lexi as a nn for this!

Yama · 23/10/2013 21:55

Much prefer Alexandra. It it strong and beautiful.

Alice has grown on me but I've always thought it a bit weak.

jellybeans · 24/10/2013 14:48

Alexandra. Les 'prim' sounding and old fashioned. And lots of nicknames. Don't like 'Ali' as nn for Alice.
