So dd1 due any day and we need to narrow down our list a bit as it has got out of hand as used to having boys! Any other ideas along the lines of these would be much appreciated too. We struggle to agree as anything I like dh thinks is snooty and I usually think what he likes is a bit boring. Here goes:
Sophie
Freya
Merryn
Erin
Lucy
Francesca
Matilda
Iona

Tia!

Love Merryn in particular. Erin, Francesca and Lucy all good.

I love Erin.

squoosh · 16/10/2013 20:07

Sophie - the world definitely doesn't need another Sophie.
Freya - nice enough
Merryn - quite pretty, I imagine a medieval maiden
Erin - don't like it. Think it's really Irish American in a very naff way
Lucy - like
Francesca - like and love the nickname Frankie
Matilda - meh
Iona - strongly dislike, it's so clumpy looking and ugly sounding

Coupon · 17/10/2013 00:18

I like Sophie, Lucy and Iona.

itsnothingoriginal · 17/10/2013 20:04

Love Merryn and I really like Francesca Smile

I do also like Iona and Erin but they are getting really popular where I live so have heard both names a lot recently.

LadyRochford · 17/10/2013 21:41

Sophie -meh. Sounds like Soap. I like Sophia better.
Freya - not v pretty and quite fashionable
Merryn - I like this. Is it Cornish?
Erin - pretty, but fake Irish
Lucy - know lots in their 30s
Francesca - love this
Matilda - and this
Iona-and this

CarryOnDancing · 17/10/2013 22:04

My vote is definitely for Merryn, with Iona closely following.

Mutteroo · 18/10/2013 01:02

Sophie - V popular whatever age you are. It is a pretty name though
Freya - Initially loved this for my 2nd baby but went off it by the time I gave birth. Thankfully I had a boy
Merryn - Seems quite popular on here. Don't know any myself & quite like the name.
Erin - Neither love or hate it. Bit blurgh to me
Lucy - like Sophie, popular in all age groups. Like the name
Francesca - Love it. Love Frankie or Cesca as nn as well.
Matilda - Gorgeous! Love Matty rather than Tilly as a nn.
Iona - No opinion tbh. It's ok.

Caitlin17 · 18/10/2013 01:17

From your list Francesca is miles ahead. I don't like Tia at all and Merryn sounds made up.

I really like Rhiannon and Phaedra.

emmyloo2 · 18/10/2013 03:52

Sophie - nice but really really popular. Every second girl is sophie or sophia.
Freya - too popular. Had it's day I think
Merryn - nice
Erin - nice
Lucy - see comment for Sophie
Francesca - fabulous
Matilda - see comment for Freya
Iona - yes I like this

So Francesca for me would be a stand out. Followed by Iona I think. TBH, all the names are quite lovely and you won't do your daughter a disservice by giving her own. It just depends on whether you want something a little less used.

Mogz · 18/10/2013 04:08

Psammead, Robyn is a great name Wink
OP, from your list I think Merryn is beautiful, so much so I might suggest it for our short list!

Rtfairy · 22/10/2013 21:07

From your list I really like Freya, Lucy and Matilda. Good luck Smile
