Has Mumsnet ever ruined a name for you?

And do you regret it? I feel totally befuddled about names having sought opinions in here and hearing people's opinions.

Wish I'd used my own instincts now and had the courage of my convictions.

No, I mean off him. And myself, tbh! I don't really think of myself as being a mumsnet type, but it would seem.....

I may have to take drastic action and call my next child Chardonnay or Marius

My dd name is both posh and chavvy depending on the thread couldn't care less as I've seen some of the most beautiful names ripped to pieces and the ugliest names suggested so I'll trust my own judgement :)

According to MN, DS1 & DS3 are boring (actually I agree, but like them anyway).
DD is overused (still agree, but don't care), & DS2 is Chav or "really cool"!

But My favourite comment was (X is a variant on my name):

Sort of. I liked Caoimhe pronounced Kweeva for DD and got told it sounded like a fanny fart! I've come around to the Keeva pronounciation now!

My name has been mentioned several times already on this thread as being quite beyond the pale for MN. DD's name is always pooh-poohed very heavily as well, usually by the Perspephone/Ottoline/Jago/Thiago brigade. I am beginning to hate that sort of poncey try hard name with a passion, mainly thanks to MN, but I also come across a fair few where I live.

I come on here for a laugh, it's always entertaining.

I'm fond of a 'poncey try hard name', makes a refreshing change from all the Sophies I'm surrounded by.

My daughters name is way too popular, faddy, and I think a bit chavy. But I have loved it since I was a child, and knew a great one in my 20s, and despite the fact that a damn lingerie line and some chick lit chick have made it much more 'common', I still gave it to my daughter because it is the only name my husband and I loved.

Luckily, at the moment, my DS's name gets all the love. I'm not sure I am going to confess to him that it was the actor playing a pot-smoking policeman that really endeared me to the name.

I've seen name threads on my chosen baby name. Some ludicrous responses so I daren't post asking opinions on my middle choice of names. I did think about it but decided its my baby and I love the name we've chosen so job done!

I was put if pearl as a middle name when deciding on a name be side of the tampax link. Damn you tampax! Lol.

I have an asshole too. He is nearly twenty so quite an old asshole. He is steady, kind and non judgmental. Qualities sadly missing in MNers who make people feel bad about the names of their children.

I totally want to know all these names now!!! our ds has a bit of an unusual name, Indiana, but I've never seen it mentioned here. combined with oh's surname he's destined to be an adventurer!

Have been reading the Baby name finder on here. Some of them are viciously cruel (sometimes funny) and clearly pointed!

Pearl is a lovely name. I had a friend called Pearl and she so suited it- gentle and delicate.

I was going to have an anyfucker but now every fucker is an anyfucker. So fucked off.

My son has a chavvy name according to MN but had never heard it called that anywhere else

I have been yelping with laughter all day at another Mner describing the name 'Edward Woodward' as sounding like farts in a bath.

My daughter's name is 'the new Sharon'. It is too popular. It is too difficult to spell.

I also love love love the name Ethel but EVERYBODY hates it on here. Too try-hard trendy AND too granny and frumpy all at the same time. Ugly.

I still love it, but I don't think I would ever use it because the world seems to disagree and I wouldn't want to saddle my child with a universally-hated name!

PS - I don't care when it comes to my daughter's name. I still love it.

The dramatic hatred of the name I suggested made me love it more!

My name NEVER gets mentioned on MN, and but at least two posters have it, or a derivative of it, in their posting name. Odd, eh?

My DS has a less common name and I NCed to see what people really thought of it.

Everyone thought it was a girl's name, whoops! Hasn't ruined it for me though becauseI only think of DS when I think of the name.
