I don't need a lecture on how nicknames just evolve or on how you think it's stupid to name a kid and then call them by a NN.

I'd love to hear your favourite name + nick name combo,to help me fall in love with a new boys name.

I really like Kit (Christopher).

TallulahBetty · 08/10/2013 09:48

For some reason, I love Victoria becoming "Tor" or "Tori" - I know one of each. So much more interesting than Vicky.

mumsnit · 08/10/2013 10:37

My two faves:

Laurence nn Laurie

Gilbert nn Gil

Bowlersarm · 08/10/2013 10:39

I'm another Christopher nn Kit fan.

William nn Will.

And a a bit more out there Edward nn Bear.

poppydaisy · 08/10/2013 13:35

I'm not sure Will (Willy Grin) is such a 'brilliant' nickname on the school playground.... but I love Kit and Gil or how about Pip (Philip)?

Bowlersarm · 08/10/2013 13:53

My 17 year old DS called Will hasn't experienced being called 'Willy' so it's not inevitable.

We have a Hugh nn Huge or Hugs

Echinacea · 08/10/2013 18:43

PoppyWearer · 08/10/2013 18:49

Edward/Ted and Christopher/Kit are fab.

MortifiedAdams · 08/10/2013 18:50

My dd is Meg - I wasnt keen on Megan or Margaret but love Meg. She gets all sorts of nicknames.

For boys, I love Sid, Gus (Fergus) and Griff (Griffin)

MollyBear · 08/10/2013 18:52

Edward - Ned or Ted
Phillip or Peregine - Pip (or even Peter at a push)

Agree with Henrietta that Bill is fab.

Torstan - Tor
Thurstan - Thor

I like Caspian, but don't like Cas (so doesn't really fulfil your requirements!)

mrspremise · 08/10/2013 18:53

My younger DS is known largely by his initials; JD. I think that's quite cool... My elder ds is generally known by his surname (quite an unusual and 'amusing' one) he has that in common with DH and DFIL who have both had that all their lives.

mrspremise · 08/10/2013 18:54

and I had a friend when I was at school called Peregrine, he was always 'Perry'.

okthen · 08/10/2013 18:57

Solomon- nn Sonny or Sol. Want another boy purely so I can use this name.

Love Patch and Kit!

MollyBear · 08/10/2013 18:58

yy to Peregrine being Perry, but I dislike that.

Pippin in Lord of the Rings is a Peregrin Smile

DontmindifIdo · 08/10/2013 19:01

Persephone being called Percy

I know a little Ozzy (Oscar) and a woody (Edward).

A friend has a dn called Wolfgang known as just wolf. Wolf is a seriously cool name. (but might be a tad hard to carry off if he's not a sporty/outdoorsy type)

Love this thread. Love the options. Hate people saying you shouldn't plan to name them something and call the something else... Why the hell not!!
