A sister for Jupiter?

We have decided to wait until the twins are born to decide their names as it seems we can't settle on two this time round. We're having b/g twins and have a list of possible names that flow and match each other as well as the other DC.

We both fell in love with Jupiter so it's on the list but cannot find a girl's name that matches (topic wise) or flows. We did love Astra Faye but sounds too close to Ash Tray!

We don't like Juniper, Juno as they're too close in name.

Any ideas?

Damn you lot are brutal but it's sometimes needed naming babies however leave my JuJu (I don't care what DW says baby boy is Jupiter - I hope) alone.

Okay so Alula, Crux are off the list. Phoenix would be for our girl. Boy's name would be Jupiter Sevastyan - middle name is non debatable as it's after DW's Grandpa and my DFIL.

Okay, we'll think of Gemini and debate it Wink.

Google Vashti - she has pedigree!

LilyAmaryllis · 21/09/2013 21:46

I love Gaia, I think that would be a brilliant name.

Another suggestion: Venetia

I'm afraid I don't like Cruz, Phoenix, Nova (its a car?) or Alula, sorry

teatimesthree · 21/09/2013 21:55

I think Jupiter and Cosima is the best combination.

I don't like Nyx, Cruz, Pheonix or Nova - sorry.

Has anyone suggested Isis?

I like Aphra.

LeGavrOrf · 21/09/2013 22:05

Oh wow at sevastyan. That's a brilliant name.

I like Alula a lot. And Phoenix is nice, but a bit tarred by its spice girls link. What about Phoenicia? Or Fenix as a legitimate alternative spelling.

LentilAsAnything · 21/09/2013 22:06

Some amazing names here, please please update us when they are here!

LeGavrOrf · 21/09/2013 22:06

Oh I like Jupiter and Fenix. Think Fenix is the Spanish spelling of Phoenix but I could be making that up.

carlywurly · 21/09/2013 22:09

Dp is a teacher. I asked him. He says you will need to privately educate. Wink

TheSporkforeatingkyriarchy · 21/09/2013 22:10

If you want another mythos name, I would skip the Roman (or Greek) ones, due to Jupiter's stories he's connected to almost everyone. And there are a lot of other great mythos out there that deserve attention.

Generally, Thea, Panthea, and Pandora would be good if you want a name with a similar background. Nanshe, Zorya, Cosima, would fit I think as would Gemini and Jupiter as earlier recommended sound really nice. Nova sounds good with Jupiter as well, but it makes me think of super heros. Start on wiki pages on pantheons and astronomy would be your best bet if your looking for that kind of thing.

peachypips · 21/09/2013 22:28

I like Vashti. It's gorgeous.

MultipleMama · 21/09/2013 22:48

Thanks, TheSpork. We like Rhea too and DW is currently on the internet looking up baby names and I'm raiding her account. Quite an interesting site.

I really like Thea but DW wasn't keen may get all the facts/myths and discuss more of them at length.

We really love Jupiter but unless we can find a myth/space name to fit for his sister, we won't use it. So really hoping for some great names to add to those already suggested.

We're paying the school to educate our kids so I think that's more important than what they think of them, to be honest.

Paccia (Pash-ee-a. means peace)

Klytie (nymph,means lovely one)

Calliope (the muse of epic poetry)

Thora

Vita

Eastpoint · 21/09/2013 22:52

Skye

LilyAmaryllis · 21/09/2013 23:13

Skye would be lovely!

gotthemoononastick · 22/09/2013 00:30

There is a dear little pink lily (common name stargazer lily in Africa) It's proper name is Nerina. Jupiter and Nerina.

MultipleMama · 22/09/2013 00:59

What do you think of Ala? Would you pronounce it; A (capital)-la or a (apple)-la?

She's the goddess of earth, fertility, and morality in Igbo mythology.

We like it (DH & I) but does it flow with Jupiter? Thoughts?

OP posts:
EldritchCleavage · 22/09/2013 01:23

A-la; stress on second syllable, both short, no drawling. Very nice.

You can't have Nix, too much like 'Nichts' (nothing).

Najmah is Arabic for star, apparently.

The ancient Egyptians had a goddess of the sky and stars, which got me all excited for you, but unfortunately, she was called 'Nut'. You could have Isis though. Goddess of magic, marriage, healing and motherhood, apparently.

mathanxiety · 22/09/2013 02:11

Too much potential for mispronouncing with Ala. It would get very annoying. And it doesn't flow at all with Jupiter except on a metaphysical level.

Driz · 22/09/2013 05:54

Ew ew ew. "leave my juju alone" I know you are only joking but I feel very very sick right now. Hand the reins back. Please!

MakeHayIsAWhaleNow · 22/09/2013 06:55

Hi MultipleDada! I love the names on this thread (can you talk to my DH?!). Not sure abut Ala, I'm afraid, too short, bit of a non-name for me. Sorry.... (I'm still sulking anyway because you vetoed Gaia! Wink)

How about Hero/Hera? Hebe?
Acantha? (A Greek nymph)
Ariadne would go with Jupiter
Jaya - a Buddhist goddess, also means victory in Hindi
Lilith - beautiful name, less beautiful meaning though, I'm afraid.
If you like Nyx, how about Pax?
Daphne/Daphnis (a moon of Saturn)
Helene
Nereid, Naiad, Despina, Gatatea, Larissa - all moons of Neptune

Sorry if some of these have already been mentioned...it's a long thread, now!

13loki · 22/09/2013 07:03

I love Nyx. It was on the list for DDs middle name (thought it went well with DSs middle name Loki- Norse god of mischief). We chose Kallisto (An asteroid in the main belt, alternative spelling of Callisto, one of Jupiters moons). I also love Astrid, but we are in Sweden, so too many of them around here.

Skygirls · 22/09/2013 07:33

I like Isis for a girl. I think it goes well with Jupiter...and it follows the god/goddess theme.

Jupiter and Isis.

How about Eurydice?

rocketeer · 22/09/2013 07:34

You really need to go with a Roman or planetary name rather than a Greek name to make it sound right. I like Seren and Aura. I know a lovely girl called Aura!

Not necessarily. There are so many weird and wonderful names around now that actually I think the students wouldn't take any notice. Names that are similar to rude words or something like that for example might get picked on, but I don't think something like Jupiter would - it would be more likely to be seen as just another name, IMO. Of course, this depends a bit on where the OP lives, round here no eyelids would be batted (not posh, just multicultural and most children have individual names) - in the village where I grew up and every second child was called Sarah it would have raised more eyebrows.

But generally (speaking as a teacher, so I know what kids pick on other kids for...) I think the child will be fine. And end up proud of his name.
