Nickname for Hazel?

We're trying to pick a name for DD2. DD1 is Evelyn, and we want something with a similar feel. So far, Hazel is in the lead. The only problem is, I really want a name with a nickname, and we can't think of a good one for Hazel. Any ideas?

Love Hazel and would probably nn Zelie (which is a different name).
Evie and Zelie!

I love the name Hazel. Not sure I can think of a nn though. Does it need one?

lljkk · 15/09/2013 16:08

Hazy? Or just Zee.

gwencooper81 · 15/09/2013 16:09

I know a Hazel and she goes by 'Haze'. Lovely choice of name. I'm sure a NN will come naturally.

squoosh · 15/09/2013 16:34

It doesn't have any obvious nicknames, why does it need one?

Josie314 · 15/09/2013 16:44

Thanks for the suggestions. We'd thought of a couple of these, but it's good to know that other people would use them.

I have a name that doesn't shorten, and always wanted a nickname, so I want to pick names with nicknames for my kids.

I love Hazel. It doesn't need a nickname.

EnjoyEverySandwich · 15/09/2013 17:35

A nickname often has no connection with a person's given name.

blueberryboybait · 15/09/2013 17:37

The Hazel I know is Tizzy.

elcranko · 15/09/2013 17:40

I could only think of Haze...

ZolaBuddleia · 15/09/2013 17:52

Nut?

soontobeslendergirl · 15/09/2013 17:59

If you are at all a Nick Drake fan, you could have Hazel Jane and have Hazey Jane.

If you've not heard the songs - there are 2 of them, check out Youtube.

Nut is great! By sure I'd want to call my dd that though. Wink

What about Squirrel? Would be a cute nickname for a toddler at least :) (Though having said that I know a grown up bloke with nname Badger, & it suits him very well)

Zel

jnl0612 · 15/09/2013 21:01

My step mum is a hazel and she gets called H. Not very imaginative sorry Wink

EnjoyEverySandwich · 15/09/2013 21:03

Bunny (Watership Down)

chesticles · 15/09/2013 21:11

Mine is affectionately called 'nut' or 'da nut ' sometimes in the house. But Hazel doesn't really have any shortening. It's why we chose it!

emsyj · 15/09/2013 22:30

I have a Hazel and DH calls her Hazlet Confused. My DMum calls her Hazy, which I hate, but mostly it's just Hazel with no shortening.

MrsJaqenHgar · 15/09/2013 22:32

Zeezee

MintyDiamonds · 15/09/2013 22:38

The only Hazel I know gets called Haze, I think choosing a nickname before a baby is born might not work out unless you are going to call her the nickname all the time people usually make up their own to call people.

Sarahplane · 15/09/2013 23:12

My dd is Hazel Megan. Nicknames are Nutmeg, Haze and Hazey.

PipkinsPal · 15/09/2013 23:14

Twiggy because Hazel is a tree.
