Nickname for Hazel?

We're trying to pick a name for DD2. DD1 is Evelyn, and we want something with a similar feel. So far, Hazel is in the lead. The only problem is, I really want a name with a nickname, and we can't think of a good one for Hazel. Any ideas?

Hazel is lovely and I wouldn't shorten it. It seems easier to say Hazel than some of the suggestions on this thread!

London nutmeg was an accidental nickname. We were driving home from registering dds birth when we realised but I quite like it. Dd loves being nutmeg. When she was about 5 or 6 she wanted it added to her birth certificate as an extra middle name but we were mean and wouldn't let her.Grin

Is anyone aware of the fact that the name Evelyn means 'hazelnut'?

I'd go for Zel/Zella. But I prefer nns from the end of the name and tenuous links Grin Haze is cool and is what her friends will call her. You'll wind up calling her Banana or something in two years time though! I remember someone talking about naming their dd and her name went from Robin to Bob to Bobzilla in the terrible 2s then to just Zilla.

Can I just say I LOVE Nutmeg and might have to put Hazel Megan on my list simply on the basis of that Grin

Hazy is a great NN.

My mum is a Hazel, nn Haze. Although we live in London so it often comes out as "Ayze". She thinks it sounds common/like a brand of air freshner so she hates it. I think Hazel is a lovely name though.

I heard a 'Hazey Daisy' this summer, short for Hazel.

I don't think it really needs a nickname.

Yes that's me toobreathless Grin - my older DD is a Ruth.

I absolutely love (and would have used) the name Celestine but our surname is almost the same so would not have worked, but very sad about that - Celeste is gorgeous.

Hazel is a lovely name. I wouldn't over think a nickname though, the best ones happen very naturally. With DD we had a nickname planned out and as soon as she was born we realised, no that is not her name!! Since then lots of silly nicknames have evolved. Have fun with it, your other DD will probably come up with a cracker! Good luck

Nut is growing on me, although Haze is currently in the lead. I do plan on calling her by the nickname, which is why I need to find one I like.

Oooh....it is nice to see other Mums of Hazels!

emsj do you have a Ruth too. (Or am I going mad??) I think I remember a thread about naming our potential DD2s! We considered Ruth and went for Celeste in the end.

Mine is just Hazel....but I do like nut! I might call her 'my little nut' occasionally from now on.

Hazel is a really nice name. Not sure about shortforms for this but people will find their own.

We sometimes call ours Haze or Hazy, or little monkey! It's a great name :)

My dd is Hazel Megan. Nicknames are Nutmeg, Haze and Hazey.

The only Hazel I know gets called Haze, I think choosing a nickname before a baby is born might not work out unless you are going to call her the nickname all the time people usually make up their own to call people.

I have a Hazel and DH calls her Hazlet Confused. My DMum calls her Hazy, which I hate, but mostly it's just Hazel with no shortening.

Mine is affectionately called 'nut' or 'da nut ' sometimes in the house. But Hazel doesn't really have any shortening. It's why we chose it!
