A sibling for Byron?

It took us a ridiculous amount of time to agree on Byron's name. DH has....eclectic taste name wise. So now number 2 is cooking and I am flummoxed.
So far we have:
Atticus (Byron was very nearly called this but I've gone off it a bit)
Caspian - we both like but don't love this.
Tiberius - DH favourite.
Aegeaus - Dh's other suggestion.

Girl wise we have only 1 name we can agree on:
Ariadne.

And that's it, we're at a veto impasse.
Help please?

One of my parents friend's children is called Thor. It was considered extremely unusual at the time (late eighties Cheshire) I love it ( I could never get away with it dh would revolt...)

DiscoBiscuits · 17/09/2013 20:21

I used to work with a Thor! He didn't ever reside in North Wales too did he?

DragonsAreReal · 17/09/2013 20:26

The Byron I know has a sister called Ruby.

Lovescourgettes · 17/09/2013 20:32

I believe yes in Llangollen disco biscuits ! Small world/unusual name!

DiscoBiscuits · 17/09/2013 21:00

I know your Thor! His Dad had a Romeo & Juliet name too?

Rockinhippy · 17/09/2013 21:17

How weird, I've know 2 adult Thors & one of those was from North Wales too, but I knew him years ago in London.

I'm afraid I'm in agreement that Felix is becoming popular - I know of 3 babies with that name & several more under 11s & that's just the ones I know.

I like Isis too, pretty with lovely connections

the Egyptian goddess names are difficult as the ones that sound pretty enough to be used as a girls name seem to have the stranger looking goddesses, frogs, hippo etc or not so nice connections, but that said I also like Nieth

also - Ceres, Aine, Selene, Ceridwen, Heloise

Darwin still stands out best to me op from your boys list :)

DiscoBiscuits · 17/09/2013 21:45

I bet it's the same Thor! V small world indeed!

I like Nefertari for a girl but the OH is unconvinced.

Isis is lovely. Like Caspian for a boy.

How do you feel about Circe? Have always loved but I gather it's a character from Game of Thrones (never watched). My other dream names for girls are Nemesis and Persephone (so naturally had a DS! ).

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 18/09/2013 08:07

Panacea ?

TheLeftovermonster · 18/09/2013 18:11

For a girl, Aurora will fit both the ancient history theme and the early 20th century Russia Smile

Vijac · 18/09/2013 21:16

I LOVE Atticus, Atti or At for short. My dh vetoed it and to be fair most people I ran it by laughed. But I still love it!

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 18/09/2013 21:21

I think Hephzibah is pushing it a little too far.

There is a kid at my son's school called Michaelangelo, and no, he is never 'Mike'. He has 3 siblings (boys) and I am dying to know what they are called!

I quite like Xerxes. Names beginning with X are brill. Xavier?

Cleopatra, Cleo is pretty cool.

Nike is a greek name.

ISeeNoReasonForBandage · 18/09/2013 21:38

Jolyon

Hero
Zena

Seraphina was the first name which sprang to mind, but I note it's already been vetoed Sad

Leonardo, Donatello and Raphael. Obviously Grin

LondonMother · 18/09/2013 21:57

Oriunda, why on earth would you want to call your daughter Nemesis? Circe is little better. She was a witch and a murderess in Greek mythology, famous for turning all Odysseus' men into swine.

AlansCat, I am so wondering if that's the case...newest arrival is only a couple of weeks old. I may have to ask.

Oriunda · 18/09/2013 22:56

Because I like the name, why else?! I'm well aware of who Circe was, but I like the name. DH would have vetoed it of course, doesn't mean I can't dream .....

MerryMarigold · 18/09/2013 22:58

But Nemesis is in common speak as something not nice. It's not a bizarre association that most people wouldn't know. It's like saying Chlamydia is a nice name (which is it is really, but you just wouldn't would you?).

mathanxiety · 19/09/2013 02:15

I wanted to call my all black kitten Nemesis when she was at the height of her 'biting and scratching the ankles' period.

One of my grandfather's brothers had the mn Michaelangelo. The family was not at all Italian.

How about:
Inessa
Nadezhda
Ninel
for a girl.
(Russian theme)

Or:
Brunhilde
Wilhelmina
Medb
Boadicea/
Boudica
Elfrieda
(Norse/Germanic/Irish/Olde saga names)

Anri · 19/09/2013 05:42

Caius
Tybalt
Rufus
Seneca
Tristram
Augustin

Tacita
Ibis
Evadne
Lark
Idonea
Vera

I think I live on a different planet

If I heard a mum yelling "Byron and Ariadne'", come here now" in the park I'd PMSL. Sorry OP.

But I suspect we are in different social circles.

Jazlyn
Shakayla
Demi-Leigh

oohdaddypig · 19/09/2013 06:07

Sorry OP, having read the remainder of the thread I think it is just that we are world's apart and I was rude. Would love to know where you live...

In which case FWIW Hugo and Hebe go well with Byron.

Notafoodbabyanymore · 19/09/2013 06:22

Sorry for my ignorance, but how do you pronounce Hebe? All I think of is heebie jeebies, but maybe that's because I'm pronouncing it wrong...

Anastasia for a girl? Covers the Russian thing and lots of potential for nicknames when she's older.
