A sibling for Byron?

It took us a ridiculous amount of time to agree on Byron's name. DH has....eclectic taste name wise. So now number 2 is cooking and I am flummoxed.
So far we have:
Atticus (Byron was very nearly called this but I've gone off it a bit)
Caspian - we both like but don't love this.
Tiberius - DH favourite.
Aegeaus - Dh's other suggestion.

Girl wise we have only 1 name we can agree on:
Ariadne.

And that's it, we're at a veto impasse.
Help please?

Conrad? Cosmo? Humphrey? I love my name (Pamela) but no one has been called this since 1966 Hmm

SconeInSixtySeconds · 13/09/2013 15:09

YY EnjoyEvery and Gregory Peck - it isn't a bad name to live up to!

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 13/09/2013 16:44

Mmm

depends where you live. Some areas in London have such a wide range of classes and cultures that no-one raises an eyebrow at anything much

OP

what about:

Marcus
Christian
Victor
Levi

Girls:

Lyra
Hero
Hera
Felicia
Constance

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 13/09/2013 16:45

Oh God, sorry. Didn't realise there were 7 pages of analysis. Will now read

CruCru · 13/09/2013 23:22

Boys:

Lysander
Caspar
Rupert
Johannes
Sebastian
Frederick
Lucas

Girls:

Cressida
Electra
Claudia
Miriam
Beatrice / Beatrix
Romily

I love Minerva (Roman goddess of war).

CruCru · 13/09/2013 23:24

Aegeaus is something I don't like, mainly because I have no idea how to pronounce it. That sort of thing creates a barrier on meeting someone which children generally don't need.

mathanxiety · 14/09/2013 04:33

Aphra
Cornelia

Constantin
Leonid (or Leonidas)
Dunstan

When I think of the name Byron I can't get away from an image of a middle aged American in plaid trousers c 1977.

MakeHayIsAWhaleNow · 14/09/2013 06:23

I love a lot of these names, adding a few to our boys list....!

One I love (but can't use as it's the name of one of my brothers) is Dickon.

MakeHayIsAWhaleNow · 14/09/2013 06:24

Unusual and rarely used but might not be different enough though...

LondonMother · 14/09/2013 07:25

Minerva is more usually known as the goddess of wisdom and the arts, actually. Most of the Greco-Roman gods and goddesses were pretty warlike. Minerva's Greek equivalent is Athena.

Caip · 14/09/2013 07:34

I really love Ariadne

What about going through the brothers from Joseph and the technicolour dreamcoat? I can only remember Asher, Reuben and Simeon but there might be some good ones in there

KurtMummegut · 14/09/2013 08:03

Byron's daughters were Ada and Allegra both of which are great names.

I love Ariadne, what about Ariana and Elodie

I know a little Io (pronounced eye-oh) which is sweet.

For boys: Gregor, Algernon, Barnabus. If your husband is into Russian history how about Sacha, Ivan, Nicholas (Nico), Leo or Andre?

burberryqueen · 14/09/2013 08:04

you forgot Elizabeth Medora Leigh

sarahbanshee · 14/09/2013 08:19

Sounds like you have similar ideas about names as my DH and he was keen on Mungo and Isambard or Isidore for a boy. He liked Hera or Hero for a girl.

As to the sons of Jacob - "Reuben was the eldest of the children of Israel with Simeon and Levi the next in line, Naphtali and Isaachar with Asher and Dan, Zebulun and Gad took the total to nine, (Jacob, Jacob and sons) Benjamin and Judah which leaves only one, (Jacob, Jacob and sons), Joseph Jacob's favourite son..."

Isn't it strange how Benjamin and Joseph would be seen as very conventional, Reuben probably also these days, yet Zebulun and Naphtali would be seen as very "out there"?

ZolaBuddleia · 14/09/2013 08:38

Some brill names here!

How about:

Lev
Inigo
Dashiell

Artemis
Cressida

ThisIsYourSong · 14/09/2013 11:30

What about Odile or Odette

mathanxiety · 14/09/2013 22:15

Mahalia (for a girl)

For a boy:
Stanislaus
Felix
Alexander

I love Minerva..

ohmymimi · 15/09/2013 20:15

I have previously suggested Vortigern as a gentle leg-pull - but as your DH has eclectic tastes ..... ?

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 16/09/2013 06:38

Indira for a girl

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 16/09/2013 06:38

DiscoBiscuits · 16/09/2013 13:59

Sorry if its already been mentioned but have you considered Ursula?

DiscoBiscuits · 17/09/2013 19:29

I have been through the whole list with him and can get a Yes to:

Ariadne, Dahlia, Isis.

Atticus, Caspian, Felix, Darwin and Constantin.

Felix is a big step forward as I've been harping on about it for a while but previously it's always been a straight out No.

Any more for any more?

mathanxiety · 17/09/2013 19:41

Eirene

AlansCatalanCat · 17/09/2013 19:46

Felix is waaay too trendy atm.

I like Dahlia, but only with the correct pronunciation, ie with Dahl as in Roald.

Don't think I've seen Isis mentioned here before. Quite like that.
