A sibling for Byron?

It took us a ridiculous amount of time to agree on Byron's name. DH has....eclectic taste name wise. So now number 2 is cooking and I am flummoxed.
So far we have:
Atticus (Byron was very nearly called this but I've gone off it a bit)
Caspian - we both like but don't love this.
Tiberius - DH favourite.
Aegeaus - Dh's other suggestion.

Girl wise we have only 1 name we can agree on:
Ariadne.

And that's it, we're at a veto impasse.
Help please?

Clovis, Hadrian, Hector, Priam (love Priam and Clovis)

And Lucretia or Cosima for a girl.

I have a DN named Antigone! Her siblings are Hector and Diotima FWIW outs self

LillyNotOfTheValley · 12/09/2013 02:37

Oh and Isolde is a fab name too. goes on my own list for potential DD2

Raeray · 12/09/2013 03:07

I like your name ideas!

How's about Tate, Ruben, Beck, Matias, Elias
Ingrid, Astrid, Darcey, Delilah,camille, Nina

Not sure where they all came from but hopefully you might like one or two Grin

Butwilliseeyouagain · 12/09/2013 04:40

Look. Hephzibah, Atticus, Stalin, Caspian, Aegeaus, Antigone are all names that would be considered very silly and pretentious by a large number of people. Obviously it's your choice but I urge you to go for something less... silly. Please. Byron is really quite nice. Can you not go for around the same level of out-there-ness for number 2?

fanjodisfunction · 12/09/2013 07:32

My DD1 is called Ophelia, only ever gets nice comments at how beautiful it is.

Callisto
Portia
Calla
Isis
Delphine

Julius
Cinna
Jolyon
Odin
Ulysess (sorry if spelt wrong)

TheCraicDealer · 12/09/2013 07:41

If he likes Darwin, what about Dawson? I know one and it's now "on the list" for my as-yet unconceived spawn.

Livia would be great for a girl. Octavia?

BananaHammocks · 12/09/2013 07:43

I think I love you a little bit DiscoBiscuits.

Niles, Walter, Giles, Quentin, Balthasar, Chester, Amos, Jethro, Obadiah, Jedediah

Hebe, Athena, Artemis, Calliope, Renata, Acacia, Cassia, Xanthe, Olympia, Henrietta, Calista, Cleo

DiscoBiscuits · 12/09/2013 07:45

Isolde! Hot Damn, I forgot that. It's so pretty. Some really glorious names there to wake up to and consider, thank you.
Butwilliseeyouagain if you'd care to reread the thread you will find Stalin has been vetoed for very obvious reasons. And wasn't my suggestion either. I am trying to find a suitable compromise with my lovely, yet slightly eclectic DH.

If you like Tristan, you might also like Tarquinius?? We know adult brothers of those names, Tarquinius is by far the cooler of the two, he is a very handsome, successful sculpturer, with a penchant for renovating & collecting vintage 50s & 60s American cars

Tristan is a male stripper Grin

Also if you like Dahlia, you may also like Delia, it was my DMs name & she was always beautiful, elegant, very clever and ahead of her time

Rockinhippy · 12/09/2013 12:43

Confused where did Tarquinius come from - I wrote Tarquin

I love Darwin BTW :)

Floggingmolly · 12/09/2013 12:51

Why do you consider them weird?. Well, the list contained Stalin for a start...

You're trying way too hard and your kids will not thank you. What about Peter or Jane, can't be any bloody worse than that list

Rockinhippy · 12/09/2013 13:04

It's funny flogging but IME you are way off the mark, having a more usual, therefore more MEMORABLE name is actually a bonus in life, yes if course you will get the narrow minded, too much time on there hands and can't mind there own business odd pee takers, but if a DC is brought up to have good self esteem, they will take that for what it is & not be bothered by it in the long term.

Honestly, if you are interviewing a hundred applicants, amongst them many Janes & other common names, the odds are, that the one that sticks in your mind the most will be the only one with that particular unusual name :)

BlueChampagne · 12/09/2013 13:11

Conrad
Wreford

Vashti
Corinna

Floggingmolly · 12/09/2013 13:13

I was joking about Peter and Jane, Rockinhippy. I wasn't joking about Stalin.

500internalerror · 12/09/2013 13:13

Seth

Mary or Martha, or Seren.

JacqueslePeacock · 12/09/2013 13:18

Erasmus. I love it but would never dare use it.

LondonMother · 12/09/2013 13:27

Darwin has wonderful associations. Dawson - all I can think of is Les Dawson, and most of you are probably too young to remember him.

I would be most interested to know why your DH suggested Stalin, Discobiscuits. Was he not even a tiny bit bothered by the idea of having a son called by the same name as one of the most notorious mass murderers in world history? Presumably he'd have ruled out Adolf or Hitler, so why consider Stalin?

If he liked Xerxes, what about Cyrus or Darius?

Inkspellme · 12/09/2013 13:28

StJohn ( usually pronounced sinjin by anyone I met with it)

Xavier

can't think of any girls....
