I love dhs name - would've used it for our child if it weren't his name.

Do you like yours?

No, but I do like the shortened version. It's not a straight forward short version and a lot of people just don't get it, or think he is saying a similar name, so DH himself tends to use the full version.

Littlecherublegs · 11/09/2013 11:17

Yes, love DH's name and it would have been on the shortlist for DS if it wasn't DH's!

Also love my BIL's and 2 of my nephews names which would have also made the shortlist!

I love his name but I hate the nicknames that people use.

noodlebum · 11/09/2013 12:28

Perfectly nice normal name, good for all generations. Pretty popular when we were kids.

chesticles · 11/09/2013 13:15

No. It's Geoffrey. Not great. And Geoff really doesn't go with his surname. I've no idea what MIL was thinking

MrsDibble · 11/09/2013 14:25

No not at all. Nearly didn't date him because of it (very shallow moment!)...

Would give a child the English version of my name in male or female version if I didn't think that was too vain though!

Minty82 · 11/09/2013 14:56

I love it - was my first choice for a theoretical DS for years until I met DH and it rapidly became clear that he would be the father of any future children!

NooMyx · 11/09/2013 15:15

No, I really don't!

DH's name is diminutive and quite a common baby name these days, but people always take it for a nickname and write the "proper" version in official papers, which he keeps having to correct. I really really wish the proper version was his real name, as I'd actually like that.

I, too, don't know what PIL were thinking. All of his siblings have perfectly good names, perfectly suitable for an adult.

OneStepCloser · 11/09/2013 15:24

Hmm, I love it because its him, but I hate it because it his eras name and dates him to then, and his middle name, I`m sorry but the whole congregation sniggered at our wedding when it was said allowed, what was his parents thinking off?! And, no, theres no family connection to it, apparently his mother just liked it.

MrsBungle · 11/09/2013 15:28

My dh is called Simon. Bog standard, boring. 70's name. He doesn't really like it. I'm indifferent to it but would never use it for a child.

Frikadellen · 11/09/2013 17:26

Yes to the extend I wanted to use it for our DS but dh said we couldn't call the child after a television channel. (something Jnr) - sadly he had a point

Robert according to mil and Rob to anyone else who knows him. Both dull.

chrome100 · 11/09/2013 20:42

Both men I have had serious relationships with have been/are called Nathan. I don't mind it, but probably wouldn't choose it for a DC

FreedomOfTheTess · 11/09/2013 20:53

Oh yes, I do, I flipping love it in fact.

It's Nathaniel and it really suits him.

Sindarella · 11/09/2013 21:01

Dh has a made up name. I like the shortened version but not the full name.

ouryve · 11/09/2013 22:49

Yes. It's lovely, but no one can spell it. Plus I know 2 more people in our street who have the same name (though spelt the easy way differently)

ouryve · 11/09/2013 22:50

Sindarella, that's a car with an identity crisis, isn't it?

mrspaddy · 11/09/2013 22:56

Yes. Love my husbands name and if we have a boy he will be named after him.. Luckily husbands name is Irish so we will use the English equivalent.

Our, he insists they stole it from him! He was meant to justin, his mum and dad loved rock n roll etc in the 60s and she said it as a joke. Dad registered him thinking she was serious GrinGrin
