What's the general opinion on the name Martine? I love it but my husband just keeps saying Martin every time I mention it!

NickNacks · 06/09/2013 20:19

I don't like it, I'm sorry.

Frontdoorstep · 06/09/2013 20:33

Why not go for Martina instead.

Queenofthehill · 06/09/2013 20:35

I love it too!

Iamgoodbutnotanangel · 06/09/2013 20:35

I wouldn't like her to be nicknamed Tina.

All the Martines I know are in their late fifties/sixties, it just sounds middle-aged to me, sorry!

squoosh · 06/09/2013 22:04

You say 'Martine'

I say 'McCutcheon'

CremeEggThief · 06/09/2013 22:09

I know of one Martine who is 10 now. Go for it, if you really like it, but be prepared for lots of, "Oh that's different! "

Leeds2 · 06/09/2013 22:28

Wouldn't be for me.

Mumblyboo · 06/09/2013 22:41

Oh jesus no. That macutcheon woman is dreadful and it's is synonymous with her I'm afraid for me

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 06/09/2013 22:45

Martina is nicer

But there are names I much prefer

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 06/09/2013 22:46

Delphine
Elise
Claudine

JazzAnnNonMouse · 07/09/2013 08:29

I don't like it.
V dated to me - almost like Tracey,Sharon

PipkinsPal · 07/09/2013 08:32

I work with a Martine who is 51. She is fun, bubbly and a great person. The name really suits her. It's a name that will be suitable at all stages of life so go for it.

pilates · 07/09/2013 08:45

I don't like it - a bit dated IMO.

It's a dated French name IMO with negative associations - mcutcheon and also the French national front - Martine Le Pen.
Sorry.

sydenhamhiller · 07/09/2013 10:11

Afraid not keen. I did however want Marta for DC3 (sound of music anyone), as a version of Martha. But DH vetoed it. And Penelope. And most other names. It's amazing she has a name at all...
Good luck-- love the baby name stage!

toffeelolly · 07/09/2013 10:21

Sorry but I hate the name.

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 07/09/2013 17:14

sydenham

The trouble with Marta is ... martyr

sydenhamhiller · 10/09/2013 09:31
