Yes, it's too popular for me.

It's popular but not massively common. Only about 3000 Oscars were born last year, so yes, very popular but you probably won't be bumping into them at every turn.

I like its links to Irish mythology.

Oscar is nice. Better to have a name people are familiar with and can spell, imho. I am not in the unusual for unusuals sake camp!

Oscar is a great name I do know a few children with that name but not as many as the alfies, archies, charlies etc.

I like it, it's supposed to be about 12th in the charts but there's none round here in the playgroups etc. there's loads of Theo's Noah's Alfie's etc

I can't stand the name Oscar, sorry, it just sounds so dweeby.

I just can't picture a handsome, successful man opening his mouth to introduce himself to a beautiful woman and then saying his name is Oscar!!! Or if it were to happen, I can imagine the woman's heart dropping and then her making excuses to leave....

I know a few 30/40 something Irish men called Oscar and they're all pretty successful.

I love Oscar- my pet gerbil was called Oscar when I was a child

I had a gerbil called Sausage - I wouldn't call it my child though

I love Oscar, wanted to use it for DS4 but DH vetoed it due to having a dog called Ozzy as a kid.

It has increased in popularity in recent years but that wouldn't put me off, it's only on MN that people are scathing of top 100 names but they're top 100 for a reason, they're lovely names!

I think it's tactless popping up on a babyname thread and announcing dogs/gerbils called x, y, z.

I have an Oscar and we don't know of ANY others. I just loved the name from The Odd Couple (he's the messy one!).

Wtaf would a woman run away from a man called Oscar? My DH has got a very old fashioned name - think turn of the century. No, the century BEFORE! Didn't put me off him

I don't think it is old fashioned....I just think it is a bit girly/dweeby.

Oh and a couple of the Dublin Oscars I know were big hulking rugby players at school.

Even if a hot, successful guy was called Cecil I still certainly wouldn't run away. I'd be all 'Mmmmm Cecil, such a sexy name'.

LOVE it. Know it's on the rise but don't know any, unlike 4 baby Williams.

I wouldn't be concerned by its popularity but more than it might rise & fall quickly and then appear quite dated (think Isla/Evie/Isabella as opposed to James or Elizabeth)

I know 2 - one is a 6 year old boy, one is a dog!

I love the name and I would have used it but one of my best friends used it first.

I wouldn't say it's everywhere but that wouldn't be an issue for me anyway.
