Jude for a boy?

So... it was going to be George, but i started doubting this after the Royal baby name was announced. We agreed on Dylan as a compromise which we both liked (neither of us loved it, but it was one of the only names one of us didn't have an objection too, and we both thought it was cute). Told my parents yesterday and they quickly changed the subject, then later mentioned the majic roundabout. It was clear that they didn't like the name. This doesn't rule it out as they would get used to it, but they are my parents and so them not liking it has put me off a bit.

Another name we had both said we liked was Jude. However I'm noy 100% on this. I know it sounds silly but it just makes me think of Judy as sounds a little femanin? Obviously if he looks like a little Jude Law then he will be able to carry anything off, but if he doesn't, do you think this is a bit femanin and likely to promt teasing at school ect? Middle name will be Stanley. What do you think, or any other suggestions?

Don't mind Jude either way but Stanley is fab. Never had a son

SadPander · 27/08/2013 20:54

Wow amazed at how popular it is - thought it might be a bit of a marmite name (thanks to those who aren't so keen on it for posting too though as good to get a balanced veiw). Gwendoline thank you! Both of my Grandads were Stanley and recently passed away so I'm really keen to use it. DH not keen on it as a first name though.

At the moment the (ever changing) short list is -

Jude Stanley
George Stanley
Dylan Stanlyey
Possibly Elliot Stanley?

Not a huge deal in the grand scheme of things but feels like such a momentous decision and nothing seems quite right. Do you think it gets easier and you just know once you see the baby?

I prefer George and Elliot to Jude or Dylan.
I love Stanley, but with our surname can't use anything with an e sounding ending. Gutted as Stanley and Ptolemy are a couple of my favourite names.

samlamb · 28/08/2013 11:32

I have one! He is 5 and very lovely.

samlamb · 28/08/2013 11:33

Oh and he is the only Jude in his school

samlamb · 28/08/2013 11:36

Missbeehiving - I call mine Judelles!

thegreylady · 28/08/2013 11:46

I love it too.
I also like Joel and Gideon

JazzAnnNonMouse · 28/08/2013 13:06

Jude is great

Dylan is not so great

George isn't good because of the prince

Stanley is awful

Journey · 28/08/2013 13:18

Jude and Stanley don't go together at all. Stanley is awful. Jude is okay.

Sadie204 · 28/08/2013 15:11

When we decided to call our DS Dylan, we got all of the 'Magic Roundabout' stuff from my parents lol! Didn't bother me much though cos they never really liked either of my DD's names at first either haha! They got used to them in the end. My main point is if that's the name you like and OH likes then use it, cos you may regret it if you pick something else.

I dislike George and can see it being VERY popular this year following from the royal baby. Agree that Stanley would be awful as a first name but a lovely sentiment to use as mn. Jude is ok, it does remind me of Jude Law as that's the only one I know. If I had ever met one in RL I might feel different but think it's nice. I'm not so sure about Elliot although my mum loves it lol! I was told many times how lovely it was whilst expecting my DS! xx

SadPander · 28/08/2013 18:37

Thanks all, I realise Stanley isn't to everyone's taste, but would like to use it for the reasons I mentioned. Any names that do work with Stanley? Or do you feel its so awful that it doesn't go with anything?

As a mn I mean, we wont be using it as a first name

Well I think Jude Stanley is lovely.Wink Wink

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 28/08/2013 18:51

Norman? (joke). Hope your surname isn't Fletcher.

Out of those listed I prefer Elliot Stanley, then George (except for the Prince business), then Jude. I just don't like Jude at all.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 28/08/2013 18:52

I love Stanley BTW.

Gingerstrumpet · 28/08/2013 18:52

I wanted it for both my boys, but my stbxh vetoed it.

I adore it.

Do it for me.

Gingerstrumpet · 28/08/2013 18:53

Ooh, funny, one of my dses turned out to be Elliot!

SadPander · 28/08/2013 20:45

Thanks Toffee and whoknows glad not everyone thinks its vile!
Ginger Its definitely high up on the list, think I need to spend a week thinking of him as a little Jude to see how I get used to it.

MrsOakenshield · 28/08/2013 20:49

hmm, I can't abide Jude Law, to the extent that it would put me off this name.

I also can't stand Bob Dylan, but I do like Dylan as a name, and Dylan on the Magic Roundabout is cooooool.

girliefriend · 28/08/2013 20:54

I know one Jude who is a dude!

Find it hard to get his attention without saying hey Jude though Grin

HmmmWhatAMess · 28/08/2013 21:24

I have a Jude. He is a true boisterous boy. We call him Judy, his friends call him Judy, and that's what if would tell you his name was. Had someone told me that I would call him Judy I wouldn't have chosen the name - but it suits him perfectly.

I have only met two Judes in his lifetime and when questioned their parents said my Jude was the first they had met .

Some say its too modern, but the name predates most others because its a biblical name...so its not the next Gary or Wayne.

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

absentmindeddooooodles · 28/08/2013 21:29

I have a jude hes a lovely little tornado. Never met snother one. I do call him judey. And so doel fsmily members. He also hets called jude the dude.
