Jude for a boy?

So... it was going to be George, but i started doubting this after the Royal baby name was announced. We agreed on Dylan as a compromise which we both liked (neither of us loved it, but it was one of the only names one of us didn't have an objection too, and we both thought it was cute). Told my parents yesterday and they quickly changed the subject, then later mentioned the majic roundabout. It was clear that they didn't like the name. This doesn't rule it out as they would get used to it, but they are my parents and so them not liking it has put me off a bit.

Another name we had both said we liked was Jude. However I'm noy 100% on this. I know it sounds silly but it just makes me think of Judy as sounds a little femanin? Obviously if he looks like a little Jude Law then he will be able to carry anything off, but if he doesn't, do you think this is a bit femanin and likely to promt teasing at school ect? Middle name will be Stanley. What do you think, or any other suggestions?

Love it! i teach a teenage Jude and he's funny, intelligent and very cool!

rootypig · 25/08/2013 20:47

Sorry, DD woke up! But then I don't have more suggestions anyway Grin

Not Stanley though, and def not with Jude.

MairzyDoats · 25/08/2013 20:50

DS1 was nearly a Jude, and I wish I'd now used it for DS2! Do you like Gabriel too? (Thinking of Thomas Hardy novels)

mervynmouse · 25/08/2013 20:53

It's a lovely name. I know a feisty little Jude who is a great character Smile

birdybear · 25/08/2013 21:05

my dd6 has a best friend, little boy called Jude. He is the sweetest, gorgeous boy and she calls him Judy! He doesn't mind at the moment but he might when he gets older!!

bootsycollins · 25/08/2013 21:07

I think it's really cute. I know one Jude, he's about 8.

southeastdweller · 25/08/2013 21:58

I've always loved it but would worry that it's too popular at the moment, which I think it is.

tryasimight · 25/08/2013 22:04

I really love it, think it's massively cool.

As a total aside, I actually find it the opposite of feminine - I read somewhere (god knows where) that men's names that end in a hard sound (like Matt, Dan, Jude) are perceived as more attractive than names with a soft ending (like Ryan, Evan, Gabriel). And apparently for females it's the opposite - so something like Rachel is perceived to more attractive than, say, Jan.

Anyway, I really like Jude and know one aged 5 and one aged 3. They are both really lovely boisterous boys.

DramaAlpaca · 25/08/2013 22:06

I really like it. Much better than George!

MissBeehiving · 25/08/2013 22:06

I have a 4 year old Jude, and obviously love it. He tells me off for calling him Doodles Blush. I don't know any others.

TheSlug · 25/08/2013 22:12

I really love it and it's on my list for baby :)

princesspeabody · 25/08/2013 22:15

I like Jude but it makes me think of Jude Law who is a jumped up to55pot...

It's a lovely name and not the slightest bit feminine. I much prefer it to Dylan.

superlambanana · 25/08/2013 22:27

If there weren't already a Judith in the family this would be one of only three boys' names on my list (there are very few I like). I think it's great Smile

squoosh · 25/08/2013 22:31

I really love Jude.

Dylan is fine.

George is awful.

alemci · 25/08/2013 22:34

sorry showing my age

Beatles playing in my head

nah, nah , nah, nan nan nana hey jude

but its not a bad name just has that connotation for me

toffeelolly · 25/08/2013 22:40

My little boy 8 is Jude, he is the only Jude in his school, which I like, do not like names that you hear all the time. Think Jude is such a cool name, and my little Jude is lovely. I would go for it beautiful name.

DaleyBump · 25/08/2013 22:41

Really really love it :)

PoppyWearer · 25/08/2013 22:43

I know two little Judes but don't think it's a "common" name by any means. I really like it.

Alisvolatpropiis · 26/08/2013 01:24

I like it.

ZolaBuddleia · 27/08/2013 13:36

Love it too.

FobblyWoof · 27/08/2013 13:58

I know of three Judes born in the last two months (two of them in the past three weeks!)

I'm not sure if that's because it's getting more popular nationally or just in my little corner of the country, but thought I'd mention it
