A sister for Edith

DD2 is due in December and DH and I can't find a name we both agree on which goes with Edith....

We would like a name like Edith i.e. more old fashioned and not really popular but not something really out-there like Myrtle or Gertrude! Smile

Surname is an awkward one and discounts anything with an 'L' or 'R' sound in the middle or at the end of the name and anything ending in 'N'! Surname is also a noun so names like 'Iona' sound like 'I own a...' when said with our surname...Blush

I love names like Elizabeth, Catherine and Charlotte but these are either incredibly popular or don't go with our surname....so, wise folks - what names can you suggest which meet these criteria??

TIA!

Eleanor/Nora - but no N or R allowed.....this is hard..
Henrietta/Hetty - no N again?
Elizabeth/Bunty
Mary

Celeste?
Mabel?
Margaret/Rita?

What about Cassie? pretty name that was on our shortlist (have 2 ds!)

Ha, all the ones I think of have R in the middle- Audrey, Laurel, Norah?!
What about something like Daphne ?

soontobeslendergirl · 31/07/2013 14:54

Edith and Lydia is probably my favourite out of the ones that actually seem to fit the criteria.

Thanks so much Smile Love love Elodie - does anyone know any old lady Elodies?? The only people we meet who have ever heard of an Edith tend to say "that's my nan's name"! And can I have Edith and Elodie together??

soontobe... I love Lydia but sadly it doesn't work with our daft surname - otherwise that would be the name we'd pick!

squoosh I like Maud but DH's crazy cat lady ma had a cat called Maud so that's out too....

Keep going - want plenty to throw at DH when he gets home Grin

Edith & Bridget goes lovely together
Xx

Strangely Elodie is one of the names I just can't see what all the fuss is about, all I hear is L O D. Others that I can't see the fuss about are Aurelia (sounds like Areole) and Seren - doeasn't even sound like a name. I know loads of folk love them though so don't let me put uou off :o

Shame about Lydia - forgot it fits into the "can't go with a noun" category.

Suggested Maeve on another post which might fit your criteria too?

soontobeslendergirl · 31/07/2013 16:24

Ooh I like Rosalie and Sylvie! Any more similar to these?

What do people think of Alodie instead of Elodie?

I like Una too but DH's comment that it reminds him of 'bhuna' has slightly put me off!

I read Edith and immediately thought Ruth. No doubt in my mind.
