Baby names

Kit, Wilfred or Diggory... If you hate all 3, stay away!

Any opinions? Am too tired to be slated if you hate them all! I think we might chicken out and do Diggory as a second name, but dh loves the nn Digger and we know a Diggory, so it probably seems less unusual to us than it might do to others!

I agree with MaryBateman, Diggory does sound like a Victorian mill owner. A Dickens character called Diggory Snodgrins.

Love the name Kit, think its quite unusual but a lovely name!

Yes Squoosh I can just see Diggory Snodgrind. Portly, red faced with mutton chop whiskers. Scowling about his pension age workers wanting toilet breaks every five hours!

Hi Backforgood, my reason for not asking for negative opinions is that we have decided he will be one of those three names and I really only wanted to hear from those who like one/all of them too - ie people with the same taste. I was just trying to pick my favourite with a bit of feedback, since it was the middle of the night!
I know I am limiting my audience - but that was sort of the point of my thread title.
If I saw a title saying "Chase, Kevin or Snotgrass... If you hate all three stay away". - then I just wouldn't bother commenting!
I would say that vitriolic comments are just pointless - they are hurtful and bullying and unnecessary - it is just as easy to say 'I like x and y, but not keen on z' and it has just as much impact, without hurting anyone's feelings. Everyone has their own opinions on names and you aren't going to change someone's mind with bitchiness.
Anyway, thanks all for all the positive comments, we have made up our own minds and it has been great to get the constructive feedback from those who were kind enough to give it politely.
Phew, last child so no more name decisions to make now!

PS to be clear, am not saying that Backforgood was vitriolic, you made a good point, I was just answering your question!
Right, off now, bye bye Baby Names topic, I have enjoyed lurking and occasionally posting here for five years!

She didn't say she wanted you to like all three. She wanted you to like at least one of them ("those who like one/all of them") and not to be actively rude about any of them you don't like ("it is just as easy to say 'I like x and y, but not keen on z' and it has just as much impact, without hurting anyone's feelings.").

I do wish posters on Baby Names would remember that as well as the OP on a thread, who hasn't yet named her child any of the names, their posts are quite likely to be read by people whose own DC have those names already. I'm quite happy for people to post that they "don't like" any of my DCs names, or that they are "old fashioned" or "trendy", but posting that they are "awful" or "yuk!" or "terrible" or "the worst name ever on this board" is just rude.

(None of mine has any of these particular names, by the way. But DD1's name has been slated quite viciously in the past, although oddly enough every time I see it mentioned on the board now it's with people saying how nice it is. Maybe I was just ahead of the curve...)

I like all 3 names although they are not my style. I think I'd go for

  1. Wilfred
  2. Diggory
  3. Kit
