Ambrose, Aubrey or Innes?

Narrowed it down to these three, to go with DS1 who is Clem(ent). Your views much appreciated please.

Innes is the nicest to my ears, but Ambrose goes well with Clement.

As does Anselm.

I like Innes, although to my mind it is a German girls name. Aubrey is too similar to Audrey, who I picture as a prim, ruddy faced middle aged farmer's wife, collecting eggs in a basket. Ambrose is a slightly buffoonish curly-haired perpetual student from an upper middle class family.

Innes is my DS's name, so I love it. However we did, when he was young (and still with people who don't know him) get Dennis, Ennis, Guinness Grin and multiple other variations. DS likes it now (he's 12 and likes it being distinctive) but when he was little, he did used to ask why he didn't have a 'normal' name. And sometimes got a bit fed up that he could never, ever get personalised stuff from the shops when out on trips etc (hardly a problem but felt like it to a little guy whose sister had what we thought was also a fairly unique name that within a year turned into the most popular name in town and could always get pencils, water cups and no end of other crap). So Innes for me out of those 3 choices, even though a little bit of me doesn't want any other Innes so that mine is special Blush

Velvet - you are right - InnEs is generally a girls' name. Boys are usually InnIs I think.

Innes, that's how it's spelt for boy's in Scotland, not very common I think and great choice

That's right aoife (I'm Scottish). I'm no expert but our checks before we chose it had InnEs as the Scottish version and InnIs as the Irish, in both cases for boys. And the same spelling with one N for girls (Ines and Inis). Ines is also used in France for girls. It means (subject to interpretation) 'unique'. Aoife is lovely btw.

Thanks all I am thinking I might use Innes as well as Ambrose, just not sure which should be the middle name.

Innes is nice enough.

Ambrose or Aubrey would be crimes against innocent babies (slight exaggeration but only slight).

I'm SCottish but don't like Innes at all.
