Primrose....too out there?

Hi,

I have recently fallen hard for Primrose, I think it sounds beautiful but is it too much?

I remember hearing of a little girl called this years ago and thinking wow. Do you know of anybody who has used this name and if so what reactions do they receive?

I always think would I like to be called this when considering a name and I would love to be called Primrose even though I'm not prim and proper lol!

I suggested it to my dh and he laughed and said it was too much but IMO how can Rose, Iris, Poppy, Daisy etc etc be ok and another flower name not?

I love it but I think it's one of those marmite names.

I went to school 40 years ago with a Primrose, very down to earth rosy cheeked farmers daughter. So it's not out there at all to me.

DD's new friend is called Primrose & she's the first we've come across, they're 11/12. They call her "Prim". We joke that she's the mouse in Brambly Hedge as she's the only other one we've heard of. I think it's a pretty name and she's a lovely girl

I love it. Really love it. I don't like Rose though so I discounted it as a first name for that reason. We used it as a second middle name.

I love it. I had it on my top ten, with possible nickname Posy. DH said no way jose and we ended up with a nice but slightly dull girls name.

Not too long ago there were Scottish men called Primrose.

It's one of those names I like the sound of but wouldn't name my DD it, IFSWIM?

The only issue I can really see with it is perhaps a bit of a spike in popularity because there's a fairly prominent character called Primrose in the Hunger Games.

There is a Primrose in "Fifi and the Flowertots".

Not sure if this matters or not, but I can only hear a very irritating Jane Horrocks saying the name....here....

Again, makes me think of the HUnger Games but she was great (ducktail! sob!!) especially the shortening Prim.

Katniss is 'out there'

I think it's lovely and can be shorted in lots of different ways to suit her when she arrives.

I also thought Hunger Games but its no bad thing. It's a lovely name.

Oh I have never watched The Huger Games so I must put that on the list of things to do. I think if I was to shorten it I would shorten it to Posy though Prim or Primmy are cute too!

Have used it as middle name for my three week old :)

Have a think about the Hunger Games factor. We named DD Beth, a name I've always wanted for a daughter and personally really like because it's straightforward and can't be shortened. It was quite unusual at the time. Very shortly afterwards a character in a soap opera called her daughter Bethan or Bethany or similar and there were millions of them out there. I often have to tell Beth's friends (at her request) that Beth is her real name and not anything shortened.

Like bootsycollins it just makes me think of Primrose Shipman. I knew of a Primrose who was known by the nickname Posy. Too twee for me. And what if you end up with a tomboy?

No, I just don't like it. It's a bit twee.
