What about Frankie?

We are going to name our little boy Frankin, he'll be Frankie for short. I have never met any Franklins or even met a 'Frankie'. Even after 11 years of primary school teaching in about 8 different school.

What do people thinK? I'm suddenly having a panic! What if it's a horrible name?! I love it and our little boy has become Frankie already but i'm worrying what people will think.... It's not the kind of name that people go...'ahh that's a nice name' about. We haven't told anyone but i did test it on a hairdresser the other day and she looked at me as if i'd just told her we were calling him Jesus or something.

My 6 month old is Franklin. I love it. We also call him Frankie.
Overwhelmingly positive response to the name from others. Most people seem to love tjat it's traditopnal yet still unusual
Welcome to the very select and cool club of little Franklins / Frankies.

charitygirl · 12/07/2013 19:55

Well I have a Frank! I don't really like Frankie as much to be honest, but Franklin is great. There is another Franklin at his nursery and I've met a few since he was born.

charitygirl · 12/07/2013 19:56

Lol at your hairdresser's reaction - in my experience people have always been positive.

HouseAtreides · 12/07/2013 19:59

The only Frankie I know is a girl, but I like it for either. :)

pleiadianpony · 12/07/2013 20:04

Thanks moogy1a and charitygirl. I also started worrying that there might be some horrible nicknames like Frankenstein. if he's born with an excessively large forehead and a bolt through his head then I'll re think. I love it alot. It's unusual but not totally out there.

... goes to Hollywood

rubylovesshopping · 12/07/2013 21:32

It's not unusual in these parts I know of at least 4 primary aged boys with that name.

mum2bejen · 12/07/2013 21:40

Lovely name! I've been teaching for 10 years and have never taught a Frank, Franklin or Frankie.

It would be on our shortlist for our little boy, but we love the name Francesca (Frankie) for a little girl so we are saving the name in case we have another baby and it is a girl! (Very long was off as this one isn't here yet, but you never know!)

SneakyBiscuitEater · 12/07/2013 21:45

DD1's preschool class has 2 Frankies, one female who is just Frankie and one male who is Franklin -shortened to Frankie.

I like it but at two in a class of 25 it is not rare round here. It is a great name though, if you like it go for it.

pleiadianpony · 13/07/2013 01:11

ruby sneaky do you live in the UK?

My brother was called Frankie.

Love Franklin, though I used to call my brother Frinkle Frankle Frinkleton of Frinkleville, so maybe my opinions on names is not to be trusted!

LittleSporksBigSpork · 13/07/2013 20:56

Lovely, my DS2 is a Franklin (though his 3yo sister calls him Frank-a-lee). Haven't had anything negative about it other than the HV kept trying to spell it with a y Hmm

Meringue33 · 13/07/2013 20:59

Love it, may have one myself one day

I also know a baby called Frankie who is lovely

Honsandrevels · 13/07/2013 21:01

I know two female Frankies under 5. Both just Frankie, not short for anything.

Onesleeptillwembley · 13/07/2013 21:02

Frank is not to my taste at all, but inoffensive. Franklin is bloody hideous. And don't forget franklin mint. Diana dolls, queen mother plates, etc.

mynameisnotmichaelcaine · 14/07/2013 16:34

LOL Laly. That's the kind of thing that happens in our family too!

I am currently expecting DC3, gender as yet unknown. If it's a boy then I think he'll be Frankie, but with Francis "for long", rather than Franklin. Although I am now toying with Frinkle Frankle Frinkleton of Frinkleville for long.

knackeredmother · 14/07/2013 16:43

I have a Frank, gets a very positive response from people. It's a cool name! We call him Frankie doodle (as in Yankee Doodle).

Daffodill27 · 14/07/2013 16:51

I also love it! Just let people's reactions go over your head, it doesn't really matter what they think does it? :)

rockybalboa · 14/07/2013 16:54

My DS2's middle name is Frank and I think it would have made a great first name too. Go for it.

thegreylady · 14/07/2013 20:33

My grandson is Frank [short for Francis] often called Frankie.I also have bot a girl and a boy in the family with Frankie as a middle name.I like it.

thegreylady · 14/07/2013 20:34

both

evelynj · 14/07/2013 20:36

Franklin aka Frankie is my 2nd choice if I have a boy tomorrow (elcs), I love it-1st choice is Jasper I think but dh doesn't like.

Also for a girl as Francesca is nice.

Wonderful name but natural to panic!

MyNameIsSuz · 15/07/2013 21:09

My 9 month old is Franklin, we intended to shorten it to Frankie but usually go with Frankels instead. Everyone has said it's a cool name, do it!
