Hi all,

I'm 30 weeks pregnant & my partner is Moroccan & he wants our baby girl to have a Moroccan or Muslim name, which is fine but the couple of names he has come up with I do not like, I really want to like one he chooses but it's too much of an important decision to agree to one I don't like, I have a few that I have looked up & written down to show him that I like but wonder if anyone could help me come up with some more as i am only getting them off of internet searches as i don't know many names from this origin myself. I would like something fairly unusual (in this country at least), feminine & pretty, possibly with a nice meaning & something that can't easily be shortened to something silly!

Thank you xxx

Exh has a cousin called saffin/saphine (sa-feen) i think it's beautiful but it was vetoed as there was already one in the family. We also have
Tavan
Shelan
Aysha
Bahar
Laila in the family.
I really wanted saffine as it is an arabic name and also can be shortened to saffy as a nickname.
Means something gorgeous like mountain spring too.

HoneyandRum · 04/07/2013 21:28

Not North African but Turkish - Melis. It was the Turkish hairdresser who cut ds' hair today. Don't even know if it is Muslim? Sounds so pretty and she is lovely.

MotherOfNations · 04/07/2013 23:05

banana one of my dd's is called Sheelan. It's actually a Kurdish name, unless perhaps it had other origins when spelt with only one 'e'.

bananananacoconuts · 04/07/2013 23:49

You maybe right mother, they actually live in kurdistan but seem to think they are strong arabic names! There is always a lot of confusion surrounding kurdish/arabic and girls/boys names

Half the people we meet laugh at my ds's name as they say it's a girls name, the other half think it's a good strong boys name!!

lessonsintightropes · 05/07/2013 00:06

My name has appeared a few times- first name suggested actually. Family shorten it to first syllable, but no one else does.

My sisters name is Zehra (pronounced Sarah with a Z). nn Zed.

I teach an Izel which may have made its way onto my list.
