I have a Tabitha, middle name Marion, after mil.NOt foud out sex yet but if its a girl we definitly love Posy, very small possibility of using Josephine officially just in case and also because its dils mothers name.

All my children have family names as middle names and theres only really NIcola,Karen,Eleanor and Ethel left.I dont like the first two so i am thinking ethel?

I know its very old lady like but i do love granny chic? Also love Percy for a boy but dh doesnt like it and whenever ive mentioned it ive had looks of pure horror,so lets hope its a girl!

You're right, it was rude. I'm sorry. Posy is a very pretty name I just can't imagine a woman of 30 called Posy.

Rude? Is that directed at me? Have you been on the baby names forum before Grin

The name Posy will divide opinions, and Ethel even more so.

Try-hard as is trying a bit too hard to be original, to be granny-chic.

Eleanor is much nicer.

I don't see why people have such strong feelings about Ethel as a middle name. I'm biassed because I had a much-loved great aunt of that name, but regardless of that - who uses their middle name at all once they're over the age of two?

As long as it's not Hitler, or Mucus, middle names are your chance to pick whatever the hell you like.

Posy won't work on an adult. Ethel is grannified.

Just my opinions, clearly others love them.

Ethel makes me think of Ethel in Eastenders.

Posy will work on an adult in that there will be an adult whose name is Posy. I don't get the, 'It won't work on an adult' thing. If a dog is called Vincent, that name works on the dog. If a cat is called Lucifer, that name works on the cat. If an adult is called Posy, or Poppy, or Daisy or Trixy Malixy or Fi Fi, or Zowie, that name is that adult.

Liking Mucus though. :)

I love it OP. it's a 'proper' name. In a world full of names such as Kaidon, Kale, Poppii-Mai ( yes really) etc etc i think that Posy Ethel will have nothing to worry about.

Mucus definitely wins by a nose.

I really, really, really hope you have a boy.

Posy is the shittest of the shit pile.

Percy? Like the dirty diesel train?

Posy is nowhere near as bad as some of the names I've heard on here.

Ethel? Granny-yes. Chic- no.

Pick Eleanor, it's lovely.

Ethel is absolutely fine as a middle name in tribute to a family member.

Posy makes me cringe, personally

Prefer Eleanor to Ethel.

Eleanor is a lovely name.

Ethel is far too old lady.

Even though you don't want opinions on Posy I really really dont like it. Far too "cutesy" and try hard. Agree with other posters that it will sound ridiculous on an adult and is too like poser.

Conjures up images of a pig tailed bratty show off I'm afraid

Posy is absolutely awful; I wouldn't use it for a cat. Ethel is not much better.

Josephine is OK- how about Josephine Eleanor?

Dozy Posy

Sad

Posy (Posie) makes me think of The Flumps which, all in all is no bad thing but Ethel make me think of "Little willies" - don't do it to the poor child! Eleanor is much nicer.

Why not Eleanor Josephine? Ethel is truly grim, sorry.

Ethel is lovely.

Posy is not a proper name, far too cutesy, far too twee sounding. I really wouldn't.

Report
Wahla · 02/07/2013 20:12

Oh oh, if it's a boy you could stick with the Flumps theme and have Perkin... or Pootle perhaps that's pushing it a bit Grin.

I can't understand all the objection to Posy. It's a lovely name, and of course it will work for an adult. I have always admired Posy Simmonds.

Eleanor has always been one of my favourite names (I think because of Eleanor of Aquitaine) and the only reason I didn't use it for either of my DDs is that I don't like it shortened to Ellie. So as a middle name it is great, and I think it sounds lovely with Posy.

I'm not keen on Ethel really, and I think the extra syllable in Eleanor works better.
