Hollie Mae

I have already named my daughter as she is 8 weeks old, but just wanted to know what everyone thought as I think it's beautiful. I know not everyone thinks the same but just curious!

FWIW, I'm not boasting or showing off or anything like that, for those MNetters who seem to jump to conclusions.

Also would love to know what names you think would go well with Hollie Mae for when she has a little brother or sister. Wont be for another 2 or 3 years, but want to have some names on my radar or I might have to ask her for ideas and pooface or pandapants is probably the kind of name she'd come up with at 3 and I can't see that going down too well. :)

Partners last name ends in Y, if that helps. :)

I love it think its beautiful if I was going to be critical at all then I would just say I prefer the holly spelling .

badtime · 04/06/2013 19:59

I would prefer Holly May.

Hollie is pretty inoffensive though. I think most names would go with it, although I would probably draw the line at Pooface.

I'd prefer Holly Maeve . Don't like Mae at all. You like it. You chose it knowing that no one name would please everybody, right?

twinklestar2 · 04/06/2013 20:15

I know a Hollie Mae/Mai, her sister is called Freya Rose.

Mnetters will hate Hollie Mae! Two names that are misspelt and the dreaded 'Mae' middle name.

Confused

Mae is the ultimate shit name, given to every baby girl in the last few years who has parents who like to be totally unoriginal. And Hollie is spelt wrong.

But its a moot point, as you have already chosen the name.

This will go two ways.
You will get the 'its lovely' crew.
And the 'its fuckin shit' crew.
Will. Not. End. Well.

Alisvolatpropiis · 04/06/2013 20:28

As monkeyface says this will not end well.

usualsuspect · 04/06/2013 20:32

If you like the name, that's all that matters.

Fuck what anyone else thinks.

TallulahBetty · 04/06/2013 20:38

I agree with you everlong. Why start a thread when you've already named your baby? If people don't like your name, it will be upsetting for you.

Congratulations on your new baby btw.

mymagaret · 04/06/2013 21:35

I really liked both names, until a totally chavvy and attention seeking mother i know called her pretty much 'facebook' famous child Hollie Mae, and now it kind of grates on me everytime i hear or see the name Hollie Mae appear every twenty minutes!
But its a very inoffensive name , with nothing too crazy to turn peoples noses up. Im sure your daughter suits her name perfectly. Just please dont post everytime 'Hollie Mae has done a poo' and i'm sure no one will think twice about your name choice! At the end of the day, shes your daughter, you and im sure OH, like the name so thats all that matters. :)

HaveIGotPoosForYou · 04/06/2013 21:38

Christa Of course. Just curious on opinions. Most people I know like it but obviously not everyone will. :)

monkey a name is a name... so there is no right or wrong spellings I'm afraid, because there is no such thing.

Don't worry, she's a tough little cookie already.

We gave her the middle name partially due to it's femininity and partially due to both my grandparents having May or a derivative thereof in their name.

BTW I've not been in the names thread much, so didn't know Mae got slated and people were judgmental on how you spell a name, even though there is no such thing as a 'right' spelling of a name - yet people can like names like Lykiahoa or something strange like that. MNetters are pretty damn weird, to be honest. Not all of you, but a lot don't have any objectivity or politeness. State an opinion sure, but be polite surely...

It's a lovely name. Prefer holly may with y though. I think you're treading dangerous water asking this question. Hope you're thick skinned!

HaveIGotPoosForYou · 04/06/2013 21:44

Haha yeah some people go overboard with things about their kids but honestly, didn't know it was that popular. We went for instinct on what we felt she suited. I think it's a split for most people. Just curious on people's opinions. Mine wouldn't change. It's popular obviously for a reason and not because we are 'unoriginal', but because she felt she suited the feminine, spring like feel to the name.

OP I like Hollie Mae, and the spelling of it too - very sweet. When she's older she can pick one or other of the names or keep them together Smile

SanityClause · 04/06/2013 21:46

If you've already named her, why are you asking on here?

If you like it, why do you care what others think?

I like your NN, BTW.

Idislikemymil · 04/06/2013 21:46

Congratulations too. Your daughter is the same age as my son. He was born on 10th April.

HaveIGotPoosForYou · 04/06/2013 21:48

isit Thanks. My sister has a nice name too but was waaay overused in the 80s (Claire Louise). People get put off because of the popularity of names, I think.

Sanity Curiousity really. Didn't know that Mae was a big Mumsnet no no. I hang round chat and aibu mostly didn't realise Mnetters were harsh in all aspects of the chat :o

Idislike Aww, lovely and congratulations to you too :) What did you end up naming him? Hollie was born 6th of April.
