Edith or Beth?

Was here recently asking between Edith and Sylvie but Dh having a change of heart.
We love both but Ds has a hugely popular, one syllable name and I worry that alongside 'Beth'..... Both being one syllable, it might sound a bit dull Confused
I know I'm over thinking but opinions welcome. TIA Smile

Edith

rundontwalk · 27/05/2013 23:22

Beth.

MerryMarigold · 27/05/2013 23:23

I love Edie as a nickname!

noxius · 27/05/2013 23:25

Or Elizabeth/Beth

forgetmenots · 27/05/2013 23:28

Edith is a lovely name Grin

And not as popular as MN would have you believe IME anyway - I know a lot of children aged 5-16 (I have 3 DC and teach in secondary) and I know only one Edith.

Beth is not that popular but Bethan and Bethany have been very fashionable - I teach a Beth, a Bethan and a Bethany. All lovely girls btw!

DefiniteMaybe · 27/05/2013 23:53

Beth

3boysgirlontheway · 28/05/2013 07:15

Edith. It's a lovely name. It was a front runner for DD's name for a while, but, where I come from people tend to butcher the "th" sound. She would have been known as Edit.

saintmerryweather · 28/05/2013 07:17

edith

diddl · 28/05/2013 07:56

Edith.

Fedupofdiets · 28/05/2013 07:58

Beth is far prettier than Edith imo!

JojoMags · 28/05/2013 10:04

Both really lovely. That's no help is it! So Edith. Great name.

SilverBirdie · 28/05/2013 16:44

So Edith is winning so far Grin
Thanks for the posts!

Love the name Beth on its own not short for anything else (is Elizabeth/Bethany)

Not very popular either which is a good sign as there will not be two in a class!

EuroShaggleton · 28/05/2013 16:49

Beth is a short form, I thought? I think it's a much nicer name than Edith though.

I dislike my very common first name and for a while decided I wanted to be known as Beth (middle name is Elizabeth). I could never get it to stick though!

fufflebum · 28/05/2013 17:00

Look at the bible Beth is Beth!

TheRealFellatio · 28/05/2013 17:01

Edith. It's utterly beautiful. Beth is lovely too, but pretty run of the mill these days.

AmIGoingMad · 28/05/2013 17:03

I like Beth as stand alone but adore Edie as nickname for Edith ( or on its own even)

Turniptwirl · 28/05/2013 19:28

Beth unless you're giving birth to a seventy year old

usualsuspect · 28/05/2013 19:30

Beth.

Edith is awful

Edith is lovely, and well overdue a comeback. Smile

MadBusLady · 28/05/2013 20:28

Of those two Edith, but I'd like Beth if it were short for Elizabeth or Bethany. I've never heard of a Beth in the Bible fuffle?
