Found out we're having a boy. Pretty sure he will be either Hector or Magnus. Which one??

Hector

marilynmonroe · 12/05/2013 17:19

Hector. My son is one and I get lots of compliments about his name. Also it's a strong solid name. Ewually I like Magnus too.

farmersdaughter · 12/05/2013 17:59

Magnus
{swoon} tall, dark and a fabulous kisser, god to be 20 again Grin
sorry DH sorry I digress Blush

I'd pick Hector as I think Magnus could be harder to pull off. Utterly fabulous name through.

JollyOrangeGiant · 12/05/2013 18:10

Magnus.

Hectoring someone is not nice and the name always reminds me of that.

Decoy · 12/05/2013 18:29

Hector

LondonInHighHeeledBoots · 12/05/2013 18:34

Of the two, Hector. I love Magnus too but its a bit of a 'big' name iyswim. Demands an awful lot.

shoobidoo · 12/05/2013 18:36

The meaning of hector (bully!) puts me off! I much prefer Magnus!

Secondme · 12/05/2013 18:38

Love both but I think I like Hector best because Magnus seems very 'big' like London says.

sleepingbeautiful · 12/05/2013 18:49

If you live (or have any chance of ever living) in a place that drops their H's, then pick Magnus. Otherwise Hector will be known as Ectah.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/05/2013 19:43

Hector

Northumberlandlass · 12/05/2013 19:48

AvrilPoisson · 12/05/2013 21:13

I love them both!

I love them both, they're both good strong names.

My ds's middle name is Hector Smile

weebarra · 12/05/2013 21:16

Love Magnus.

olivertheoctopus · 12/05/2013 21:56

Oh weird, I just came on to post a 'Magnus or ....' thread. Hector was on our list until I realised I couldn't tolerate the IL's H dropping to Ectah which made me think of ectoplasm! The verb wouldn't bother me at all.

Both gorgeous names - personally I would go with Hector. Presumably both will go with the surname? I mean if your surname was House or something I'd go with Magnus. Similarly if your surname was Magnusson, I'd go with Hector.

Wuldric · 12/05/2013 22:02

Incidentally, the name Hector does not mean to bully. That is incorrect.

You can google for the origin of the name, but I suspect you are confusing it with the verb 'to hector'. Which doesn't mean bullying either!!!

Cockadoodlequack · 12/05/2013 22:05

Where do you live?

A vote for Hector from me though. I can imagine a man, bu tnot necessarily a child pulling off MAgnus.

congratulations on the impending arrival of Magnus/Hector!

I agree with jimmythecroc

exoticfruits · 12/05/2013 22:17

I don't like either, but anything has to be better than Hector.
