Our much longed for DD will be here in 4 months! (Three years of trying!) Hubby is one of those rare animals who is happy with most names I suggest, which although sounds great to have carte blanche, can be a little frustrating when I actually want opinions and ideas. (Bless him he is just so thrilled, we could call her Windolene and he would still be the proudest dad-to-be) :)

Anyway, these are the five he has shown the most interest in and I wondered what you thought. I am aware they are for the most part quite popular, but tell me what you think anyway:

Beatrix Hope

Lydia Alice

Romilly -help me out with a mn?? (NN poss Romy)

Thea Isabel

Posy Alice

Bit of a funny bunch but please opinion away, be as brutal as you like :)

My favourite of your five is Lydia Alice. I also think Lydia works with Hope as a middle name or even Beatrix and Isabel. Lydia is one of my top three names. The others are Claudia and Gabriella. I'm gunning for Claudia if baby is a girl!

EdinLS · 01/05/2013 20:46

I love Lydia Alice - and Thea, but not massively keen on it with Isabel, prefer Thea Alice I think. Not a massive fan of Hope either.
I can't decide if I really really love Posy or if its just because I love Ballet Shoes (I have a secret urge to call a DD Petrova)

GeordieCherry · 01/05/2013 20:49

Call her Blanche Wink

Massive congratulations btw & I like Romilly best Thanks

FingersCrossedLegsNot · 01/05/2013 20:52

Love Posy! Congrats

fruitpastille · 01/05/2013 20:56

I like Romilly best, Milly for nn?

I like Thea, Hope and Alice too. Not keen on the others.

thermalsinapril · 01/05/2013 20:57

From your list, Beatrix Hope, then Lydia Alice.

Isabel might be a nice middle name for Romilly.

BeaWheesht · 01/05/2013 20:59

Hate Romilly and Posy

Don't mind the rest LOVE Alice

bollockstoit · 01/05/2013 20:59

Lydia or Romilly (love Romy too)

BeaWheesht · 01/05/2013 21:00

Ps if I had another girl and didn't feel I had to choose a Gaelic name I would choose genevieve, Harriet or Meredith fwiw

soontobeslendergirl · 01/05/2013 21:01

.....anything except Posy - may as well call her Bunch.

Favourite would probably be Beatrix with Theadora a close 2nd

soontobeslendergirl · 01/05/2013 21:01

I agree that Alice is lovely too.

Bowlersarm · 01/05/2013 21:02

Romilly nn Romy

Still18atheart · 01/05/2013 21:07

Beatrix Hope - Nice 1st name Don't like Hope

Lydia Alice - Best of the lot

Romilly -help me out with a mn?? quite like but not sure how to pronounce

Thea Isabel - quite like

Posy Alice - love Alice not keen on Posey. Might be nicer as Alice Posy

comelywenchlywoo · 01/05/2013 21:50

Lydia is a beautiful name

Thea, Alice and Romilly are all lovely

I knew a dog called Posy, so in my mind it will always be an animal name. Sorry!

Congratulations on your DD!!

QuantitativePleasing · 01/05/2013 23:06

Lydia, all the time. Lovely.

Juliet and Grace are also lovely.

fussychica · 02/05/2013 14:17

Lovely names - best combo probably depends on what sounds best with your surname. For me I'd go Alice Thea.

BlueChampagne · 02/05/2013 15:22

Thea or Lydia would get my vote from your list.

squoosh · 02/05/2013 15:53

Awwww huge congratulations to you both, your happiness is bouncing off the screen Smile

I like Thea best by a long shot. It's feminine yet not too girly or fussy.

EssieW · 02/05/2013 16:01

Alice is very lovely but I am biased.

I also love Lydia and Thea.

You obviously like the idea of Alice as a middle name so I'd stick with that and then find the first name to go with it and one you love.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 02/05/2013 16:14

Romy is lovely so maybe Romilly Alice?

Other names are all grand with just one exception. Posy is sweet but trying to imagine it in rl as anything other than a nn... Once she is a teen or fully grown? Sorry can't quite imagine it.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 02/05/2013 16:15

PS dare you to enter Windolene on the MN Baby Name Finder Wink

Timetoask · 02/05/2013 16:17

I hate Lydia!
But love Alice....
And Beatrice/x
I say ditch Lydia and just use Alice as a first name...
CONGRATULATIONS!

Purplebananas · 02/05/2013 16:19

Isn't Romilly a boys name?

Thea and Lydia are great names, very strong wondergirl names full of personality.

Posy is really twee and wimpy.

Beatrix is a bit old lady for me.

PollyJane · 02/05/2013 22:12

Thanks for all your suggestions!

In answer to poster above, yes, historically Romilly was a boy's name (taken from the surname, in turn taken from a place name in France) but like a lot of names, it is now unisex and from what I believe you are more likely to see a newborn girl Romilly than boy.

I did think about Alice as a first name, I love how it sparkles when I say it, but I am concerned about that stupid song.... I caught my dad whistling it the other day when someone named Alice was on the radio....

I think I just picked Hope because of the symbolism for hoping every month that baby would be a reality and eventually it happened for us... I suppose to that end, we could have Faith too....?

It was cut and dried, Phoebe was the name I wanted since I was 11 - then a close friend used it a year ago. :( Her little Phoebe is delightful however :) and I know no one ''owns'' a name.

Other names we have considered are:

Penelope
Matilda
Eilidh (dh Irish)
Noa
Florence
Isabel

Which for the most part are super popular.

There is time yet, but thanks for your suggestions and help so far :)

ps - we ARE super excited and happy and grateful :)
