Expecting DC2 in four weeks and can't decide between Elspeth or Kirsty.

DS is Fraser and would like another Scottish name too much our Scottish surname

What what do you think?

Elspeth. Love it.

Also love Eilidh.

AgnesBligg · 31/03/2013 03:29

I prefer Elspeth I think. Nice.

HollyMadison · 31/03/2013 08:00

I prefer Kirsty. I had a teacher called Elspeth once and I think she had problems with people thinking she had said "Elizabeth". My friends who are Kirsty get called Kirst. I guess if you wanted a nn for Elspeth you could have Ellie.

survivingwinter · 31/03/2013 09:45

Elspeth - I think it's very pretty.

Don't like Kirsty at all, sorry.

Nospringflower · 31/03/2013 09:50

Not keen on either TBH - prefer lots of other Scottish girls names.

sweetiepie1979 · 31/03/2013 10:00

Kirsty is the new Sharon Elspeth is lovely.

GetOeuf · 31/03/2013 10:05

Kirsty is a horrible name to lumber someone with (my name is Kirsty and I loathe it). Plus people call me Kirst all the time and it rhymes with cursed which isn't very jolly.

It Is a modern equivalent of Sharon I think.

Elspeth on the other hand is really lovely.

Cristiane · 31/03/2013 10:07

Ishbel?

gerbilsarefun · 31/03/2013 10:29

Oh dear [bushock], I have a Kirsty who is 11 now. It's not really a common name for her generation, I never need to put her full name on PE kit as she has always been the only one in the school. She was 2 days old and nameless, I found the name Kirsten in a name book, OH said no, then I said Kirsty and that was it, it suited her down to the ground. We love her name and so does she. Incidentally, her middle name is Elizabeth, I'm thinking Elspeth is the scottish version.

Allalonenow · 31/03/2013 10:32

Elspeth is lovely!

hairyqueenofscots · 31/03/2013 10:35

i am an old kirsty and it was very unusual then, v popular now though.

Wishfulmakeupping · 31/03/2013 10:36

Another Vote for Elspeth

RatPants · 31/03/2013 10:37

I'm another old Kirsty and have always really liked my name. Didn't realise it was popular now. Also really like Elspeth though Grin.

RatPants · 31/03/2013 10:39

Gerbils I have exactly the same name as your daughter. Grin

Was always the only one in my glass too.

littleacceb · 31/03/2013 15:59

Elspeth! That would be my first choice if I didn't appear to be a producer of males only :D

Startail · 31/03/2013 16:07

Elsapeth, Kirsty was the Courtney of my childhood.

I'm guessing it doesn't have quite that association in Scotland rather than '70's Wales, but Elsapeth is much prettier.

mathanxiety · 31/03/2013 19:07

Both lovely but I think I prefer Elsa or Kirsten.

NeoMaxiZoomDweebie · 31/03/2013 19:11

Elspeth. Gorgeous name. Kirsty...nice but meh.

KristinaM · 31/03/2013 19:24

Both lovely. And have no Sharon associations in Scotland anyway

Other suggestions - Morven , Iona, Mhairi, Catriona, Moran, Isla

Eilidh is a lovely names but very popular right now

KristinaM · 31/03/2013 19:25

Sorry that should be Morag not Moran.Blardy autocorrect

hugoagogo · 31/03/2013 19:27

I really like them both, I love scottish names, but I don't know many Kirstys.

I wonder where it has become so popular as it doesn't appear in the top 100. Confused

GlaikitHasHerFizzBack · 31/03/2013 19:30

Elspeth lovely
Kirsty a bit meh.

I know an elspeth nn Elsie, which is cute, but she still has a grown up name for when she gets her Nobel prize!

haveapear · 31/03/2013 19:36
