Do you like it? Is it getting a bit overdone? Does anyone know the stats for last year? I'm in Ireland so I don't think it is popular over here at all (please correct me if I'm wrong Smile) I really really like it but have previously discounted it as its rising in popularity and I have a dc already with an E name wwyd?? Dd was born in 2010 and is Esmé pronounced ez-may. I love it and chose it when i was 15 (now 28) and never met 1, since having her i have met 4. Popularity was never a factor as i love the name so i did no research before she was born into its popularity. I think it was number 73 in 2011 in England and wales and number 82 in 2010.

MidnightMasquerader · 14/03/2013 19:03

I think it's reasonably popular, but not massively so.

Es-may is, IMO, absolutely the nicest pronunciation.

smallsmith · 15/03/2013 20:57

I love it. I only know one Esme, so I don't think it's too over-used.

FriggFRIGG · 15/03/2013 21:03

tis luffley Smile

cece · 15/03/2013 21:10

I have an Esme (we say Es-mee)

I know 3 Esme and 1 that pronouces Es-may

It has risen in popularity but not in the top 50. There do seem to be more toddlers around with the name - I occasionally notice the odd one here and there - think my ear is atuned to it iyswim.

DD occasionally gets called Es-may by some teachers but as it is also nice she doesn't seem to mind. There is an Esme character on one of the CBBC programmes now - a witch... LOL

permaquandry · 15/03/2013 21:15

Love it, I know 2 but from different areas, so I don't thinks its too popular.

PurpleStorm · 15/03/2013 21:18

I like it.

I know one Esme, pronounced Es-mee.

LilyAmaryllis · 15/03/2013 21:19

Its LOVELY

fieldfare · 15/03/2013 21:19

I think it's nice but will rise in popularity from the Twilight series.

Startail · 15/03/2013 21:26

It's lovely, I only know one about 9

RicStar · 15/03/2013 21:27

I really like it & havent met another one but didn't know there was a twilight connection.

williaminajetfighter · 15/03/2013 21:47

I had a friend called Esme who got teased at school and called Lez-me and the usual bad lesbian comments. So I try to avoid names like Leslie or anything with a 'ez' sound to it.

Otherwise I do love the name.

msbossy · 15/03/2013 21:56

I have an Esme (Es-mee) born 2008. Everyone immediately (and convincingly) gushed at how beautiful the name is. It has surprised us that there are a few other little Esmes around, but my Esme is the most Esmeish Esme I know ;-)

MoonHare · 15/03/2013 22:45

Love it! I only know one Esme and she's mine. Get lots of positive comments. It has risen in popularity recently but I doubt it'll ever be top 50.

cece · 16/03/2013 07:59

Mine was born in 2001. When she was born I got a few negative comments. Mainly along the lines of 'have you made it up@ 'is it short for Esmerelda?' But people seem to have heard of it now so it's interesting how reactions have changed!

insancerre · 16/03/2013 08:02

I know an Esme who is 4 and an Esme who is a mum of year old. It's not that common where I am.

insancerre · 16/03/2013 08:02

*mum of a 4 year old

IroningBoredDaily · 16/03/2013 15:56

I have an Esme (Esmee and love the name!). I don't know any others. She's the only Esme registered at our very busy toddler group.

DancesWithWoolEnPointe · 16/03/2013 15:58

It will have Twilight associations. It will be a very 2013 name.

Shr0edinger · 16/03/2013 16:00

I like it but if its popular in the uk it WILL be pipular here too. maybe less so because the irish names dilute the popularity of non irish names. i only know two esmes though. i reckon it is on the up though.

Shr0edinger · 16/03/2013 16:02

Is there one in twighlight?

doyouwantfrieswiththat · 16/03/2013 16:06

Makes me think of Esme Weatherwax.

squishee · 16/03/2013 16:07

I like it a lot. Cute and feminine. Is Ezmay an option, if you want it pronounced that way?

DancesWithWoolEnPointe · 16/03/2013 16:11

Yes - Edward/R-Patz's adopted mother is called Esme. And the baby they have in the last book is called Renesme (a combination of Renee' and Esme).

(I'm Blushed now, I'm actually not a twihard, I promise)
