Merle · 09/03/2013 16:19

Emmeline and Sylvia. If I'd had daughters...

SageBush · 09/03/2013 16:21

Mary (Wollstonecraft)?
Simone?

MortifiedAdams · 09/03/2013 16:23

Juno always sounds to me like a name a staunch feminist would choose. Dont know why.

The mother off Mary Poppins was a suffragette - cant think of her name!

MortifiedAdams · 09/03/2013 16:24

Winifred! Thats it. Love that name too. Especially Winnie.

NotADragonOfSoup · 09/03/2013 16:24

Is there such a thing as a feminist name?

MortifiedAdams · 09/03/2013 16:25

Ummm...yes. Names of famous feminists. Women who have fought for equality.

Lexagon · 09/03/2013 16:28

I think Christabel is gorgeous, how about Bell, Adrienne?

DoYouMrJones · 09/03/2013 16:30

Andrea?

NotADragonOfSoup · 09/03/2013 16:31

Err no, those are names of people who happen to be feminist, they are not feminist names.

Emmeline after Emmeline Pankhurst.

CelticPromise · 09/03/2013 19:38

Millicent.

specialknickers · 10/03/2013 18:36

Great list soontobe... Frances crops up twice and I think that's corker. For the price of two humanists you'd also get the very wonderful Frances McDormond and Frances O'Grady. Two excellent feminist role models!

CountryMama · 10/03/2013 19:46

We are into feminist names and have used some...
Ezra ( girl and boy name).. The route in the Hebrew describes the equality intended for men and women.

Noa is a girls name common on the continent... Noa in the bible demanded Moses treated her with equality.

Bue · 11/03/2013 20:29

Lilith. Some people don't like the whole child-killing aspect (go figure) but she was Adam's first wife who left because she refused to be subservient to him. I know a little girl with this as a middle name.

SilentMammoth · 11/03/2013 20:44

Oh gosh, Lilith, that's brilliNT. I did an essay on her in 6th form. Just need to persuade DH. Thank you all.

Off to google Noa

Lilith, wasn't she supposed to be a baby-eating demon?

Some names have bad juju and IMHO and that's one of them.

meditrina · 12/03/2013 16:12

Aphra?
