Albi - the racist dragon?

I love the name Albion. DH says it will be shortened to Albi (which I like) but there was a joke song by FLight of the Conchords called Albi the Racist Dragon.

Is that what you thought of?

Never heard of the song and really like the name.

eggsy11 · 25/01/2013 13:58

please, please don't call your child Albion. I have no idea what flight of the conchords is.

HollyGoHeavily · 25/01/2013 13:59

I thought Albion Market

Herrena · 25/01/2013 14:00

Yes, I would immediately think of that!

What about Alfred or Albert instead? Old-fashioned names are back in :)

GirlOutNumbered · 25/01/2013 14:02

I teach an Albert and he is so lovely. I do like that and Alfred.

Nope. I quite like Flight of the Concords, but I haven't heard that song. I think it's nice. It reminds me of Alfie, and also Alba in The time traveller's wife.

StephaniePowers · 25/01/2013 14:02

I'm afraid it makes me think immediately that the parents are National Front supporters.

BunnyLebowski · 25/01/2013 14:02

Albion is, quite frankly, ridiculous.

And Albi would instantly have me singing the FoTC song. And sniggering.

malovitt · 25/01/2013 14:08

I would think the same as your DH, although I do have an 'Albi the racist dragon' t-shirt which I bought about 5 years ago from the US. Couldn't get one over here.
Albi is lovely, but may be confused with Alfie, which is not.

GirlOutNumbered · 25/01/2013 14:10

haha stephanie...

Albions a no I think, but I wont tell DH he was right.

Badvoc · 25/01/2013 14:14

Erm. No.
Just...no.

StephaniePowers · 25/01/2013 14:15

What about Albert, but everyone calls him Alb, or Albie?
It's a really nice name (just not Albion!).

GirlOutNumbered · 25/01/2013 14:17

I used to work with an Albion years ago. We called him Albi. I have always liked the name, but I can see the love is not shared!

I'm not actually sure I like Albi as a mans name, now I have written it down a few times anyway!

KobayashiMaru · 25/01/2013 14:19

Makes me think NF too. Why not Alby, short for Albert?

GirlOutNumbered · 25/01/2013 14:21

I really didn't expect the NF links, but I guess with the name maybe I should have. Will definitely steer clear now!

GirlOutNumbered, did his parents look like <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?um=1&hl=en&client=safari&sa=N&tbo=d&rls=en&tbm=isch&tbnid=J924pmI17YQRyM:&imgrefurl=hoffman.photoshelter.com/image/I00007I2h0SP9HTg&docid=ciXDQee7fFcriM&imgurl=cdn.c.photoshelter.com/img-get/I00007I2h0SP9HTg/s/750/600/NF-Finger-Couple.jpg&w=750&h=500&ei=s5QCUYD1MM2N0wXChIHoBg&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=4&vpy=134&dur=4197&hovh=183&hovw=275&tx=129&ty=130&sig=115172420618456094903&page=1&tbnh=142&tbnw=214&start=0&ndsp=29&ved=1t:429,r:0,s:0,i:82&biw=1372&bih=784" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">this?

Kelerina · 25/01/2013 14:21

Albi is cute, Albion not so much. Love that flight of the conchords song, awesome song.

GirlOutNumbered · 25/01/2013 14:30

Probably Stephanie, I was working in Plymouth at the time Wink

Grin
KirstyoffEastenders · 25/01/2013 14:38

Haha, love the Conchords Grin
I would assume parents were West Brom fans.

CruCru · 25/01/2013 16:29

It reminds me of a pub and the FotC song.

VikingLady · 25/01/2013 21:18

NF was the first thing I thought of too, sorry. Objectively it is a nice name, but perhaps not wise!

JugsMcGee · 25/01/2013 21:50

Just reminds me of Plymouth Albion!

PurpleStorm · 25/01/2013 23:45

I've never heard of FLight of the Conchords or Albi the Racist Dragon.

BoringSchoolChoiceNickname · 25/01/2013 23:51

If you were lucky I'd think West Brom fan, if unlucky EDL.
Either way, it's a no no (unless you are massive West Brom fans in which case, go for it).
