I went to school with an Indian girl called Jaya which I thought was the most beautiful thing I'd ever heard.

Bessie - well yes, she was Hades' wife, so queen of the shades - but she's also part of the spring story, when she returned from the underworld to the normal world, she brought spring and new shoots (her mother is the queen of the harvest, so they were both worshiped together for good crops).

But it's such a gorgeous name. (And I love the idea of a little girl with a nn Percy)

However, I have accepted it's not one of the names I like that DH just feels a bit "meh" about and I could work on him over (I'm having limited success with another couple of names), but he hates it - and it's not fair to insist on a name he really hates (rather than just isn't excited about).

If I ever leave him and have a DD with someone else, then she'll be called Persephone. Wink

(Of course, it's going to be a boy now after this!)

I only find girls' names beautiful when you hear the full name - eg Eugenia Victoria Butler. Sometimes fairly plain names are glorious in combination.

Auriana
Annabel
Juliet
Juliana
Lydia
Susannah

Elowen, means elm tree in Cornish. I really want an Elowen Alice....

Or Poesy (pr. Posy) :)

Also love Ophelia, but like one poster said, in an English accent is not great...'I feel ya' Hmm.

Dreadfully popular I know, but Florence is also gorgeous...
