Siblings with same initial?

I'm due in May and don't like any girl names! Arrgh!

The one I do sort of like starts with an S, as does my son's. How big of a deal is this?

I've always been slightly against this as I plan to have more and feel it's a bit strange for two siblings to have the same initial and one not...like they're left out or something. I realize that may be my own strange issue!

Thoughts?

My brother and I had the same initials, it really never bothered us at all. In fact our names sounded quite nice together (well I think so anyhow).

Will save you money on name lables for school! As long as names don't sound similar then should be fine.

I had the same feeling re same initial ft siblings... My DS and dd now share the same initial!!

I avoided R names for dd for exactly the same reason! I think I'd like A third Dc but I felt that if dc 1 & 2 had the same initial then dc 3 would have to as well ( or they'd feel left out or different)... And i feel having kids with the same initial would jut be really corny!

Very bad idea. I share initials with all of my siblings and it is a pain in the ass. We are all well known in our respective fields by our initials. People are constantly mixing us up our work histories.

3 of us with the same initial, the only problem was knowing whose post was whose.

dd and ds have the same initial - but very different names - never had a problem. I have the same initial as my sister & my dad - again, never had a problem. Apart from when he opened my GCSE results, but that was on purpose

But, that said I do see it's more of a problem if you're going to have three. If there's only one name you really like though, I think that's more important.

The names are Samuel and Sophia (Sam and Sophie) if it makes any difference. :)

I've just always felt strange about it! I used to know an Alex and Andy, then their mother had Ethan. I felt better when she had Emma after that, lent symmetry to the whole thing! I am strange.

We don't really do name labels in the States so wouldn't matter that way. :) I have to admit, my brother and I have the same initial and it's never really caused any issue. (We're Matthew and Megan.) I think it's really the "if I have another" thing.

Lovely names

I'm one of 4, 3 of us have the same first letter of first name.

Some relations of mine have 9 kids, who's names ALL begin with the same letter

Judging from recent discussions I've seen on this, MN is very divided on this topic. My personal opinion is that as long as they are different enough sounding to give them their own identities its fine.

I know two Sophie and Sam sibling sets, I think it is a common combo, if you like one, you like the other IYSWIM. Like Kate and Emily another common set of sibling names.

I have cousins who are Emily and Kate! (And then followed by four others. :) )

If I felt like I were just going to have the two I wouldn't hesitate; being both "M's" never meant anything to me and my brother. It's just if I have more!

I am quite overthinking, aren't I.

I have an A then a G then an A. And I am A and so is DH. No-one really comments or notices to be honest. And having a different one kind of proves that they were just names that I liked and that it was coincidence! Congrats by the way!

Rather over think now than afterwards :) I know a family with two Ms, a big age gap and then another little one. So they did come up with another M not wanting her to feel different. But I also know another family with two Js and then a C. The comment there was that the two Js was a coincidence, they just happened to like those two names and never had any intention of calling DC3 anything with a J unless it was their favourite name.

Come to think of it one of my friends with Sophie and Sam is having a last chance baby, wonder if she'll be an S?

Two is fine, 19 is not... There's a fundy family is America called Duggar who's 19 children (plus one miscarried baby) all have name starting with J.

Josh, Jana, John David, Jill, Jessa, Jinger, Joseph, Josiah, Joy Anna, Jedadiah, Jeramiah, Jason, James, Justin, Jackson, Johannah, Jennifer, Jordyn, Josie. Miscarried baby was called Jubilee.

Oh, I know the Duggars, believe me.

I have asked my partner about this issue, as he and his sister have the same initial. He says that it never caused any problems, and was handy for labelling. Their names were quite different, the same sort of difference (!) as, say, Liam and Larissa. Sam and Sophie sound fine together.

I have the same first initial as my db. I think if you have a girl and boy the same initials won't really be a problem as post will say miss/master S ...
It would be a bit more confusing if you had 2 Miss S ... or 2 Master/Mr S ...

My eldest dd (Sofia ) has the same initial as my husband - I didn't even think about it until she was already born. Funny enough Sam was mooted as a baby name for dd3 had she been a boy. If you love the name, don't give it a second thought.

Okay, I think I'll go for it. :) Of course I've got lots of time to change my mind...but as of now it's the only girls' name that feels even vaguely "right" IYSWIM.
