I like all of the names below (although I'm sickening myself with them at the moment and DH is visibly bored of the conversation) and I don't want to ask people in RL their opinions as I've made that mistake before! What do you think of these and can you suggest anything along the same lines? Older DD is called Josephine. Thank you!

Eleanor
Martha
Meredith
Anna
Emma
Charlotte
Madeline

The first six are all fine. With Madeline you might get difficulties with alternative spellings. I feel that Eleanor is the best fit with Josephine.

baskingseals · 19/11/2012 22:24

you've got some lovely names there.

my favourite is Anna. elegant and underused, i only know one adult Anna.
i also like Emma, again pretty and underused.

Martha and Meredith aren't really my cup of tea. Eleanor i like, but she will be Ellie, which is sweet but incredibly popular. I quite like Charlotte, and don't really like Madeline. sounds too much like Madam to me.

would some more suggestions be helpful or just do your head in? Grin

namechanger4097 · 19/11/2012 22:36

Thank you! Some suggestions would be fab - my head is already done in, too late, so if there's a name like these I haven't thought of then I'd be v grateful. Something classic, not too girly and not too popular is the brief Smile

My LO is a boy, but our girl names were Anna and Emma. As well as being classic and not overly popular, I think they are classless too- Emma could come from a northern council estate or a Surrey mansion. (That's a good thing in my book)

baskingseals · 19/11/2012 22:52

ok i'll try Grin

Miranda

Marianne

Louisa

Constance

Frances

Alexandra

Clara

Elsa

Juliet - not sure with Josephine though

Honor

Harriet

Diana

Penelope

borisjohnsonshair · 19/11/2012 22:54

I like Meredith and Anna best.

Other suggestions:

Harriet
Matilda
Rachael
Claudia
Juliet

Rhubarbgarden · 19/11/2012 22:58

My favourite is Anna. I can't abide Emma, it's just so bland.

Other suggestions:

Thea
Connie
Naomi

Szeli · 19/11/2012 23:04

I thought you were suggesting Impasse as a name at first!

Meredith and Madeline are lovely.

I also like Matilda and Maeve xx

Rhubarbgarden · 19/11/2012 23:05

Lorna

namechanger4097 · 19/11/2012 23:07

Thank you! I do like Frances and Juliet too. Claudia, Connie and Miranda were dismissed by DH before he got sick of saying names out loud and saw that Hitler programme was on the telly.

Love Meredith

HoratiaWinwood · 19/11/2012 23:09

Catherine, Elizabeth or Susanna(h)?

I very much like Charlotte, also like Anna although prefer Annabel.

namechanger4097 · 19/11/2012 23:09

Ha ha Szeli - what middle name goes with Impasse?! Thank you. DH also vetoed Matilda. In fact, I see why he's sick of me.

Thanks Rhubarbgarden but I had a boss called Lorna once who was a bit, well, psychopathic.

Sarah
Catherine
Fiona
Marcia

suzydelarosa · 19/11/2012 23:15

Anna and Martha are good sturdy names and work for when she is 8 or 88. I really cant stand Charlotte as its too precious and princessy. Sorry! It's almost as bad as Amelie. Yuck. Just too saccharine !!

An Anna or Martha would be up for a long walk on a wet day; a Charlotte wouldn't want to get her boots muddy!

Apologies for strong feelings but you wanted an opinion!

suzydelarosa · 19/11/2012 23:18

Also agree with earlier posters. Far far too many Ellies and Maddies these days.

How about: Tabitha, Mabel, Roisin?

And please, dear god, not Ava!!

suzydelarosa · 19/11/2012 23:18

Let us know what you decided

SkiBumMum · 19/11/2012 23:22

Meg
Beth
Amy

Laurie if it's a boy

namechanger4097 · 19/11/2012 23:29

Thanks all and will do suzydelarosa. In fact I'll try and whittle down a short list in next couple of days and market test that. SkiBumMum, no joke, I'd happily go down the Little Women names list if they didn't belong to family members and friends' kids already (well, except I don't know a Laurie).

Haha I really agree with suzy! Anna or Martha from your list :)

BlueChampagne · 21/11/2012 12:56

I love Meredith, and would also suggest Rhiannon or Corinna.

JimbosJetSet · 21/11/2012 14:04

Ruth?
Alice?
Allison?

Anna is my favourite from your list, it's a classic.

wigglesrock · 21/11/2012 14:37

I have an Anna (21 months), its a beautiful name and people always comment on it.

ItsGonnaBeFine · 21/11/2012 15:06

Meredith is pretty. I do like Anna, too - a nice, classic name.

Josephine and...

One of the Rosa names? Rose or Rosa (my fave), Rosalind, Rosamund, Rosemary or Rosalie

Elisabeth
Emmeline
Mathilde
Helena
Imogen
Adelaide
Louisa
Thea
Lucille
Ursula
Beatrix
Anya
Mary

Gugglebum · 21/11/2012 18:04

I like Charlotte best, especially with Josephine. They are lovely, feminine, and (if need be) proper/formal names, but if either of them turn out a bit more tomboy-ish, you've always got the wonderful Josie or Charlie they can fall back on. Perfection.
