Perdy.......

mummabug · 06/11/2012 21:31

I have become a serial poster of baby name questions, my apologies!

Think we have pretty much decided (other names having been vetoed by DH) on Perdy. Was going to go with full name Perdita, but I just don't like it. DH has his heart set on Perdy.

So, firstly, what are your thoughts on Perdy as a name in its own right? I know it means lost, which is a bit negative but I'm not too worried about that.

(I also love the names Juno, Mila and Anouk but all have been vetoed)

Secondly, Middle names!

Perdy Matilda
Perdy Anouk
Perdy Harriet
Perdy Juno

Any other suggestions? I'm sensing I need a long middle name to go with it but brain not functioning. Thanks Mumsnetters!

I like it, it makes me think of 101 Dalmatians.

onedev · 06/11/2012 21:40

I love all your suggested names & think Perdy is great.

My favourite with your suggested middle names is Perdy Matilda Grin

kilmuir · 06/11/2012 21:40

my grandad had a male friend called Perdy

Pancakeflipper · 06/11/2012 21:40

Pervy.... oh Turniphead, that's ruined it.

mummabug · 06/11/2012 21:42

pancakeflipper haha!

Perdita is a lovely name but Perdy just makes me think of the American deep south "isn't she perrrrrdy?" or the shotguns. Different spelling I know (Purdey) but I couldn't call my daughter the same name as a gun.

armedtotheteeth · 06/11/2012 21:46

Really not keen on Perdy - makes me think of "pretty" in a drawly accent. (same as you said for Purdy)

I think Perdita is much better sorry! I'm never a fan of short forms / nicknames on the birth certificate though personally.

Ummm, no. Please don't

NellyBluth · 06/11/2012 21:51

Very Jilly Cooper, sorry. But Harriet/Hattie, and Matilda are lovely.

Anonymumous · 06/11/2012 21:55

Sorry, I think it's too much like Pervy as well.

DottieRose · 06/11/2012 21:56

I thin Perdy is very cute, it has an upper class quirky feel to it!

Perdy Juno is fantastic! How about Prudence shortened to Perdy? Or Persephone could also have Perdy derived from it!

cherrypiew3 · 06/11/2012 22:03

Perdy is sweet and I like Matilda for a second name.

Rhubarbgarden · 06/11/2012 22:04

Perdita is beautiful. Perdy isn't.

MaryAstor · 06/11/2012 22:05

I've nothing against shortened names being on birth certificates as a rule, but in this case, I sort of feel that because Perdy is really quite unusual it appears... made up?....unless it's a nickname rather than a full name. IYSWIM (I'm not sure I do!)

I know you hate Perdita (shame - I think it's nice and I know a lovely one), so would you maybe go for Persephone as the 'official' name?

Plus, how can she not be awesome if she's named after the queen of the underworld?

It sounds like a budgies name, sorry but that was my very first thought.

MaryAstor · 06/11/2012 22:08

Oh jesus, call her Perdy rather than Perdy-short-for-Prudence.

Prudence really is Godawful. Sounds like 'prunes' and 'Poo-dence' (there is a connection there.)

Sorry.

Wow longest linkie ever!!

RonettePulaski · 06/11/2012 22:11

very jilly cooper, that's not necessarily a bad thing, 80% of my baby name list is jilly characters

Perdita is a bit sad though. It means lost :(

sashh · 07/11/2012 04:14

I thought 'pervy' too, sorry
